So season 2 is done, what does everything think of it?

 

Disappointing.

 

Good, but alot of wasted potential

 

Rocked my socks.

 

A very slow season that missed a lot of opportunities with characters and plot. The show improved since "Legacy" but everything before was clearly filler. You would think in a show that has limited characters because of cost, that they wouldn't kill them off and develope them a lot more.

 

I enjoyed it. looking forward to season 3!

On one hand, fantastic. On the other, disappointing.

 

I enjoyed it but it was very shallow. I'm hoping season 3 has a deeper plot.

 

1. Orion Pax being restored into Optimus Prime again should lasted more than three episodes.
2. Should of been more of Wheeljack
3. Grill was a waste of an episode, which could of been used to bring in a new bot or con to spice things up in the first half of the season.
4. Relic hunt episode tunnel Vision, Triangulation, Triage, Toxicity were great episodes.
5. Smokescreen was and still is a great addition to team prime.
6. Finally was awesome.

So over the season was good, started of flat then slowly progress to being a great .

 

better than season 1

 

I admit Bulkhead got on my nerves when Smokescreen came in, and Smokescreen got on my nerves during the Omega Key hunt, but other than that, I loved it. Awesome Season and I can't wait for Season 3  

 

Excellent start, shockingly disappointing final two-thirds.

Everything just imploded with either "Nemesis Prime" or "Grill."

And, aside from being a pretty entertaining 22-minutes in and of itself (actually a season highlight), "The Human Element" is among the ultimate storytelling gaffes of the franchise.

I was carrying a major torch for Prime through season one and up through the first seven-ish weeks of this season. Hopefully a third season can help repair that.

 

Yep, agreed. That's a really good "in a nutshell" statement.

 

A little too scattered for my liking. And it mostly had the same tone throughout. Overall it was good, but could've been improved on.

 

Some good ideas never fully capitalised on, one giant wasted opportunity along with some well done emotional scenes and a finale that, whatever else I may feel, certainly changed the dreaded status quo.

 

Some missed opportunities, but still enjoyable none the less.

 

Overall, I really enjoyed Season 2. It was a lot heavier on plot flavor than Season 1.

S1's moments of epic were added to by their contrast to 'normal life/battles' in most other episodes. They seemed more intense because the other parts hadn't been as intense (more like seeing the movie in theaters after you watch a few episodes of the TV show it's based on).

S2 went ahead and tried to do constant movie style intensity. While I appreciated the epic and have no interest in telling them to change what they're doing, I feel like characters took a bit of a backseat to plot at some points in the series. The plots seemed disconnected from the characters (which is fine, because the plots didn't originate with any character's action that directly) but the characters didn't seem to fully step into their full selves in what we did see of them having to deal with the plot's conflicts.

One of the things I like about Transformers is that you can have characters (especially visible in IDW) where they have personalities that wouldn't really fit into a basic mold well in most groups/societies in our world, but in their world they end up carving a niche for themselves. They're not separate from their world and toning themselves down to perform functions - they're still their strange or quirk filled selves with their own life-stories while telling the arc's story as well.

The most obvious example in Prime at the moment for me is how Arcee has made the war personal over the loss of her partners. We still see that Autobot-Decepticon war and whatever means that's coming to head for the day in, but we also see more 'why' and 'how' rather than just 'what'. I don't think that means that the overall plot arcs or action needs to be reduced - just more tailored to who's doing what.

Loved it. Want more. I'm just being greedy when I say I would love to have a little more time with motives and backstory, this show already is immensely enjoyable for me.


as a final note: I dislike viewing things from 'the writers' point of view, or from a 'potential' point of view. If a character dies but I wasn't ready to not see more of them, that's how death works. The other characters reacting to a sub plot ending or a character dying is simply how the story goes, not a waste of a character.

Being honest, lots of boring moments with some fantastic moments thrown in every now and then.

 

I didn't like it very much. The Orion Pax arc was okay and I'm a bit relieved that they didn't drag it out for too long, and while I do think that arc should have lasted more than three episodes (five at the most), I was worried that we'd be stuck with Decepticon Orion Pax all the way until the finale, but we weren't.

With the exception of Triage, I thought every episode in between Loose Cannons and Out of the Past were just flat-out bad, as they devoted too much time to boring relic hunts and they simply weren't interesting. I also don't like that they killed off Breakdown, as out of all the Transformers in the show at that point he had the most potential for character development, and I was really hoping they would explore his past with Bulkhead. Bulkhead said in Deus Ex Machina that he and Breakdown had a history, but is it explored? Nope, Airachnid rips Breakdown to shreds and he's made into a battle armour for Silas. LAME!!!

The season did start improving with the introduction of Smokescreen, who is a fun character, but the stuff that made those episodes bad stuck around. It was still boring and it still pissed about with macguffins. As well as that, I really don't like Prime's habit of introducing something interesting and potentially game-changing then writing it out within one or two episodes. Nemesis Prime, Starscream's clone army, CYLAS, Airachnid controlling the Insecticon hive, Red Energon, all these things could have developed into interesting plots, but they're scrapped either in the same episode they're brought in or within two episodes of their introduction to make way for more relic hunting. As I said, I don't mind as much with the Orion Pax arc, because it would have become very frustrating if they tried to spread the shock value of Optimus Prime being a Decepticon over twenty-six episodes.

Even the Omega Key arc turned out to be pointless, as it spent six episodes building up to something that doesn't end up happening, and I hate it when a TV show does that (I'm looking at YOU Russell T Davies/Steven Moffat era Doctor Who!). Reviving Cybertron would have been a great game-changer, but the writers just had to throw in the "Either Cybertron remains dead or Earth dies" crap at the last second so it wouldn't happen! I do like that the Autobot base has been destroyed and the Decepticons have a fortress on Earth, as it shakes up the status quo a little bit, but I still think reviving Cybertron would have been a better way to end it.

So overall I thought season 2 was bad, to the point where I doubt I'll watch Beast Hunters.
