Ok, I posted a question in the Lambor thread, but I feel its better suited for its own discussion.

Keep in mind, I am NOT trying to start a Wrong or Right pissing match, just some open minded discussion about the scale of MPs now.

I have a few MPs. Im actually hooked on them now, and selling alot of my collection to buy old ones now. (hint hint..got an MP-01 you wanna trade something for?)

The New scale for Sideswipe left me pretty underwhelmed. But as some smart guys proved, it is pretty much in scale with the size chart.

So then if this "new scale" is what is going to be the standard of, Then where would say an MP Galvatron work? We already have a terrific MP Rodimus. Would they make a Galvatron that is in the "new" scale, so that rodimus towers over him? would they redux the Rodimus MP as they did with Prime?

Myself, I really just looked at front paged pics of MP Sideswipe...I really assumed (MY BAD) that it was about as big as an alternator. I really dont care for the new smaller size much.

Now, I am an MP customer. I am really starting to not buy run of the mill stuff, and save up for MPs and quality TFs. I LOVE the big MPs like Megatron (My crown jewel) I love a real intricate transformation, I love rubber tires on MPs. So I would say That if MP Sideswipe was the size of an Alternator, with rubber tires, He would be double the price, right $140? I'd pay that. I just have a problem with a deluxes sized transformer, with plastic wheels, and a simple transformation with a premium pricetag.

What are your thoughts? Are you happy with how they are now? or do these "new" MPs not live up to the "masterpiece" badge? When I think MASTERPIECE...I think Big..COMPLEX transformations...intricate detailing...and a premium pricetag.

Is this really just a result of the world economy? I think MP customers buy them without regard to the economy myself...I prefer the older MPs so far. MP01 is still pretty damn hard to beat if you ask me.

    Thoughts?

Rodimus Convoy is already in the new scale. He was cited as the starting point for the new standardization. Galvatron would likely be of similar height to Rodimus and MP-10 Convoy.

It's Hot Rodimus that's out-of-scale, because it's physically impossible to shrink the toy as much as is required.

I'm not really getting the Galvatron question. I mean, they'll made his bot mode to match Rodimus, which might mean that his alternate mode will be kinda small. Honestly, I don't remember how big Galva's cannon mode was in the cartoon.

And while the whole- Hot Rod-to-Rodimus conversion is an neat gimmick, it's almost useless since the height difference is practically nothing. Kinda wish they would have just given us Rodimus Prime first, then a smaller Hot Rod more in-scale with the other car robot later on.

Sigh, I'm thinking the scale should be a new meme around here.

While I will admit I am disappointed with the loss of diecast and rubber wheels, I am very happy with the Masterpiece line overall. I would much rather have seen those kinds of little touches continue, even if it meant a higher price tag being attached. Even though I am not overly concerned with scale, it is nice to have them being as accurately recreated as possible. The Masterpiece figures are the only line I collect and am quite happy that Takara is putting more serious thought into the line and are putting significant weight behind it. I truly hope we get to see a complete season 1 and 2 cast produced before they drop the line.
If I were to compare the original MP figures with the figures since Takara "rebooted" the line, the new stuff wins hands down. For me I care more about how they look rather than how complex they are to transform. I display almost everything in bot mode, and for me, the new figures look much better. They are able to be posed better and look more like the cartoon than any previous figures ever have. Don't get me wrong MP-01 is a fantastic figure and a must have for any serious collector, but in terms of looks and display, the new stuff in untouchable. Of course this is all just my opinion and I'm sure there are a ton of people who would adamantly disagree. Just like everything else in life it's totally subjective.

Now me, I base my judgment of the 'quality' of Transformers toys not on complexity, but on the 'fun' factor.

Sure, Rodimus and Megatron are brilliant feats of engineering, and certainly quite complex toys, but for me they're not fun at all - I find transforming them a bit of a chore. It's funny, I like the more complex Transformers in general - ROTF Leader Prime and Voyager Mixmaster are two of my favourite figures from recent years, but those two MPs annoy the hell out of me for some reason (and of course, Megatron's legs look rubbish).

I think you're putting too much emphasis on complexity here - the current MP Prime may not be as intricate as Megatron, but he's fun to fiddle with, and I think the balance is spot on there. My original MP Prime can rest easy in the attic these days - good though he was, MP10 supersedes him in just about every aspect, IMHO

Besides which, the upcoming Soundwave looks amazing, yet I doubt his transformation will be super-complex (just fold him up into a rectangle, more-or-less).

And if you think Sideswipe is small, I've seen some legends figures that are bigger than the MP Cassetticons will be - and yet I pre-ordered them in a heartbeat!

So long as it looks great in both modes and is a fun toy, I'll buy any Transformer, whether it's in a Masterpiece box or not.

I don't care about price, die-cast, size, rubber tyres, nor how many steps it takes to get from A to B.

MP Grimlock had pretty much exactly the same transformation sequence as the old 80s toy and that was a superb figure, despite the lack of complexity.

As a quick barometer, here's how I'd rate the MP moulds, in order (excluding Sideswipe and the ones yet to be released)

    1. New Prime
    2. Grimlock
    3. Old Prime
    4. New Starscream retool
    5. Megatron
    6. Old Starscream (I hate that hip kibble with a vengeance!)
    7. Rodimus

MP Sideswipe looks like he just stepped out of the G1 cartoon show, has minimal kibble, a neat transformation, and plenty of character. For me, that's enough - your mileage may vary.

Looks like the MP Minibots/Insecticons will be Scout-sized.

After Soundwave, I am done with MPs. I have no interest in any of the Autobot vehicles, too small. I would have preferred keeping Prime in his original MP1/MP4 scale, and the Autobot vehicles in the MP10 Prime scale. I have lost interest in the MP line.

No, just the size of one.

...but they are in the MP-10 scale. That's why they're that size.

That pic with the new MP prime and Rodimus alleviates most of my concern now. I would still like MPs to have rubber tires. I know its kinda stupid...bit its a big deal to me. As long as they keep this standard scale...I think it will all work out great then.

If I were to pick the next MP, I would pick either astrotrain or blitzwing. I would love to see what they could do with a triple changer these days.

I would still love to see a bigger class, like the old MPs. Something about MP1 is just untouchable to me. I know the alt mode isn't the greatest, but that massive solid bot mode with rubber tires and working suspension is killer to me.

Im interested in seeing MP Hotrod comparison pics with MP Sideswipe in both car and bot mode . I doubt they are close, but ideally they should have been roughly the same size.

Honestly I can't see myself paying that much for a MP that is only slightly taller than a Classics Deluxe. The lack of rubber tires and any diecast is the final nail in the coffin. If Sidewipe is released in the states for around $50 I may bite but right now it's not going to happen. Soundwave is still a big possibility.

I think redo-ing Prime at the height he is now was a smart move. It makes it more reasonable, afforable and probable that transformers bigger than Prime can/will be built. Once a MP-10 Ultra Magnus comes out I think a lot more collectors will understand and jump on the new MP train.

I don't hate the size. I like that MPs are more in scale with other TFs. I'm disturbed that the prices are still the same as the bigger ones were. This figure should not be 80 plus bucks.

Imagine how huge MP Ultra Magnus will be if they used MP01 mold as the base, cool but too big and not practical, also having a skyfire or combiners to scale with MP01 would be huge and just ridiculous. I love the new "scale" of the MP line!

Honestly I can't understand why people can't get there head round the new "scale" of this line? Let's spell out......

Scale is based on Robot mode not Alt mode.

If you are wondering how other characters that may be release in the future will scale refer to the scale chart.

The real question people should be asking is, what MP's that have been done before MP-9 will get revisted to fit in with this new line? There is only three that don't scale properly Megatron MP-5, Ultra Magnus MP-2 & Grimlock MP-8.

Does anyone have a season 3 scale chart I haven't been able to find one for that season?

You do realize that getting the license for Lamborghini can't possibly be cheap, right? And that Soundwave has lots of accessories and Laserbeak as well? I'm not saying you're wrong to dislike the price, just try to consider the whole picture. If all else fails...hope for a Hasbro release.
