hes actually not as much of a coward right now, the fact that he has been acting independently really puts him in a more scheming position rather than a cowardly one.

If Starscream wasn't a coward...people would complain. He's sticking to what he does, and I'm shocked that someone can find a problem with that.

Are you upset that Megatron is a Decepticon? Or that Optimus Prime leads the Autobots and not someone else?

It's not like "Screamer" is some fan name or something, the Autobots in Prime routinely refer to other characters by nickname. Be it Jackie, Bee, C (Cee?), Ratch, Bulk, Sunshine, or Scream. In fact the use of the name "Screamer" is from a G1 episode, Skywarp called him that in "Fire on the Mountain".

Odd that they gave Starscream one and not Smokescreen.

I kind of just want to say "obviously not" but this might rate a more considered response.

In just about every series with Decepticons, except for the real oddball RiD, you have Megatron and Starscream. They are the major representatives of that faction, a faction that is meant to personify evil, violence, and tyranny. As such, they play a major role in defining the faction for us. Having contrasting characters, rather than just having Starscream be Megatron's protege, lets us explore much more of the nature of the Decepticons and of evil, from the perspective of the writers.

Now, speaking in broad generalities across the franchise (Armada is an exception, yes, we are over it now), Megatron is sort of an "imposing warlord" archetype. Starscream has to give us a different archetype. He's more of a "scheming vizier." Where Megatron is driven by ideology, Starscream is just pure selfishness, and cowardice is one of the qualities that helps show that.

Plus, good god, most entertaining character on the show.

I´m not complaining about SS´cowardice, but his inability to balance between exaggerate gloating one moment, and bowing pathetically the other, usually in the worst moments or in the most unsubtle way. Like a bipolar disorder.

^Can't think of anyway to explain it better. Besides, his cowardness (if one can call it that) makes him more interesting and fun to watch.

He wouldn't be Starscream if he didn't act like that.

I'd rather him be less whimpy, I like him having some cowardice but his reeling away and pissing himself gestures do annoy me, starscream should be a powerful cybertronian but should the times get tough or someone look to get the upper hand he should flee or make himself less scarce like the first movie when he dropped down v Ironhide and Ratchet shot at them but when they were getting back up after the initial surprise attack he fled, I like that. Starscream in this series started off great, evil, powerful and commanding, a fresh take on the character but then he wound up being a joke due to poor writing.

Coward Starscream? Starscream is a coward. It's rare for a Starscream to not be one. But he usually doesn't end up dead and he's always fun to watch regardless, so it's all good.

Even though Starscream is a coward, I think it gives us more appreciation for him when he does do something cool.

It's like a less badass version of Soundwave. Soundwave generally spends his time doing nothing, so when he does something cool, we all jump on it and squeal OMG SOUNDWAVE DID SOMETHING COOL!

So when Screamer's being all cowardly, we're all Silly old Starscream is being a coward again, what a surOMG STARSCREAM DID SOMETHING COOL!

    :lol

I agree that sometimes he's a bit too whimpy, but usually we see him simply not wanting to die/get hurt. If he were a complete coward he would have never get anyting done. Through the entire season he was at great disadvantage, but it raley stopped him. Most of his whining was him trying to gain favor from whoever had the upper hand at the moment. Unless he's in the position of power he's usually acting.

He doen't have the unlimited power of courage and disregard for his own life like the 'Bots do and bless him for that. I can't truly sympathize with those hardcore super soilders who are ready to throw their own life away for their cause/leader/human friend, as noble and glorious as it sounds. Starscream gets scared in situations most people would shit their pants. He will always look like a coward compared to them because he only fights for his own well-being in any way possible.
