Yep, I still have a Brave Max so would really prefer a Trypticon for my Metroplex as well. I wish I had at least gotten a gigastorm when they were plentiful.

im of similar persuasion, eg encore devastator doesnt have the weighty feel of an original but to get a decent (i'd argue its no where near like a KO)reissue version which is totally mint and clean does have some satisfaction.

    Collect the vintage...play with reissues/Encores.

...or in the case for those with kids, let them play with the Encores...but if you collect them as well, buy multiples.

What's to prevent someone from selling Spike from that set and claiming he's original?

Wonder why Hasbro won't re-release a FM is they have the mold available.

    Ebay:
It won't pass the "drop test" - they have to be able to drop it from X height and have it not be dangerous. Apparently if they drop a Fort Max from X height, it can crush babies skulls and / or turn into a pile of jagged daggers.

    Thank goodness for Japan! LOL

i have an original devastator...it's been in a box forever. i never thought of it as weighty. i always thought devastator was the clunkiest and crappiest of the combiners. seem to remember there being lots of loose joints on everything. never bought the encore cause I never thought the original was that great.

Holy god. The King Customer's are warring with the...well...Customer's over Max?
    :lol

To me this is a win-win.
People who don't want to drop 1-2K on a vintage FM can have one now for way less. People who do have a vintage FM will continue to, and it will still be worth more than the reissue (just not as much as they are fetching now).

I also don't understand the issue with pointy things on toys...what about the metal antenna on a remote control car controller...now one of those would take somebody's eye out!!!

I'm pretty happy with my Kabaya Fortress Maximus as a representation of the character, but I'd totally consider dropping $400 on a Grand Maximus reissue with the extra accessories/pretender shell.

I'm not sure why you're calling yourself a "casual" collector. What would you call me, as a guy with a complete line of 1984 TFs -- though about 20% are reissues, and some are Diaclone (Reflector).

Obviously if I were trying to use TFs as an investment it's probably not the best strategy - but when people ask me about my collection I don't go to eBay to quote a price on it. The collection exists to make me happy. There's no reason Encore Fort Max would make me any less happy than a 1987 original. Maybe a tiny bit, but I'm not looking for absolute purity, otherwise I'd only buy MISB and that's "hardcore" to me. Maybe "ultra-hardcore."

Anyways, the whole point is that yes... 25 year old Fort Maxes will go down in price, because people like me won't be there to bid the price up on eBay. They'll probably not go down to $400 or anything like that, as they're not perfect substitutes.

But you've got to admit that the Demand for the original will fall due to this.

    Wow. Learn something new everyday!

Now that I see that, though, I think the possibility for a repaint/reissue of that toy is almost nil. Not unless they choose to release it without the pretender shell.....

I love to get one and I missed getting one back in 1987. But at $399, I really have to think about it.
