hmm. My ignore list doesn't ignore when people quote the pointless rage posts.

I guess some people are just far too passionate about silly comics, AlphaTrion23. You'll never change their mind.

I showed some friends this, they all laughed. Which was all it was meant to do.

And considering that I've seen it happen, it's mostly a valid statement about the dreadful reality when elitist dickhead fans are put in charge of the very thing they despise: Children.

    :rolleyes2

OK, we get it, fanboys are evil. Fanboys abuse children by not buying them what they want.

Can't anyone take a joke for what it's worth anymore?

"Don't take life so seriously. You'll never get out alive."
    - Van Wilder, Van Wilder

    Moving on.....

    In regards to the comic:

It reminds me of a recent Christmas shopping experience I had with my nephew. My wife and I were babysitting my 5-year-old niece and 8-year-old nephew and we needed groceries. So with the kids in tow, we went to Wally World, trying to get gift ideas for Christmas this year and groceries for the week. Because I'm a toy collector, my "job" as far as presents go is to get them toys. The rest of our family springs for clothes, school supplies, etc.

So, we walked them through the toy aisles and asked them what they wanted for Christmas, toy-wise. My niece picked out some car thing for Polly Pocket and my nephew wanted a block monster toy from Code Lyoko. To me, the block toy seemed silly. It was a block with an eye on it, nothing else. From what few scenes of the show I watched, it is apparently cannon-fodder. My nephew doesn't even have any other figures from this line either. So I ended up having a five minute conversation with my nephew about why he wanted the block thing and not some other action figure, like Ben 10 or even a TF (both of which he also likes).

It's not that I didn't want to get him the toy at all, I just didn't want to come back later, buy it, and find out at Christmas that he didn't really want it in the first place, or worse yet, never even played with it. But he was adamant, so I said, "Ok, thank you for the idea. Let's go home."

I then spent 10 minutes arguing with him about why I wouldn't buy the toy for him now. My niece, on the other hand, grasped the concept immediately and turned to make plans with my wife about what board game we'd play when we got home. Kids....

The truth is fun. I like the truth. I also like to spread the truth. Lies are bad though, people shouldn't lie.

But telling the truth is good. Fanboys are bad.

Yeah, I know who the pissy fandom is:

They are the ones who are so low that they make personal attacks against a guy's kid and the guy's parenting skills when he criticizes a trollish cartoon whose sole purpose is to flame a certain segmant and cause arguements.

Honestly, I think it's funny to poke at amusing fandom quirks.

But when it gets into stuff like "NO, fans are BAD, if you don't agree YOU ARE BAD BY ASSOCIATION" then it's less fun and more beneath me. :(  Don't get beneath me. It's unpleasant. I eat loads of capicolli.

And of course calling fanboys bad parents is-like-so totally the truth. And appropriate.

Sorry... but I fail to see the humor in calling people child abusers. That, to me, crosses the line.

Perhaps you can explain the truth of it to me.

Okay where in this thread were you called a child abuser? I've read through this entire thread and I can't see the abuser reference.

    Oh, come on, already.

As Shawn said, no one in this thread called anyone a child abuser. This is the kind of baseless exaggeration that fandoms are getting blamed for. I never read the original thread for it, but I'm guessing this is how the whole "raping my childhood" crap started, too.

The comic was a joke. Maybe a bad joke and not everyone thinks it's funny. That's fine. It happens, because jokes can be subjective. If everyone in the world thought every joke ever told was funny, then we'd be laughing all the time instead of arguing the alledged merits of a single comic strip. Just let it go, already.

    Please?

Child abuser is a bit of a stretch... but the cartoon was seriously not funny, and fairly inflamatory. Basically, it's some bitter guy who uses that old "raping my childhood" phrase, and refuses to buy his kid a toy because HE doesn't like it, and refuses to let the kid play with his collectables while he simmers in the past.

So basically, we create yet another negative stereotype at the expense of those who don't like the new Prime. Basically, it suggests the G1ners are bad parents... and I think that's where the bone of contention lies.

I don't find it funny at all; and what's worse is that some people around here are saying "yeah, it's so true! G1ners are bad parents! Har! Har!".

It about compares with BW Depth Charge holding up a picture of Steve Irwin saying "yeah, I got him". Pretty low, really.

I have. SB wasn't called a child abuser... but I can kinda sorta in a wee bit of a way see where he got that idea. Kinda. Maybe. Sort of.

Basically he said something about his conduct and brought his kid into it. Even if we weren't dealing with someone with a hot temper, bringing someone's kids into it is a pretty cheap shot.

I think that SB should take another break from the fandom.

That stereotype existed WAY before though. Just that David Willis decided to make a strip about it. Like I said, don't get mad at people who point out stereotypes. Get mad at those who created them

And it's DEFINITELY not in anyway compareable to the Steve Irwin's death analogy you made. In fact your comparision IMPO is pretty low class.

And with the exception of 1 poster, no one's said "G1ers are bad parents"

Those stereotypes already existed? I find that hard to believe. What I find easy to believe is someone wrapped up in their own little world so tight that it becomes easy to create slander against those we disagree with and believe it to be true. That's prejudice in a nutshell.

You don't think that this strip suggests that G1ers are bad parents? I think you are in denail. First, that "raping childhood" is so pasted to that part of the fandom, and that guy in the cartoon uses that phrase... and then he does that to his kid- which is bad parenting.

Apparently, you see things waaayyyy differently. I wish I had your glasses.

Well stereotypes don't just come out of nowhere. And yes it already existed

The Comic Shop Guy from Simpsons is a prime example. Comic Shop guy appeared on Simpsons BEFORE the internet became widely available. And obviously that character was inspired somehow. So yes, this stereotype has existed for a while unfortunately
