I cut bits off for the backpack. How much do I need to cut before it's a mod?

With the poor official transformation and the neon color scheme, you'd think Hasbro wanted to fail. These modifications are great! G1 colors please, Hasbro!

Really makes me wonder what's going on over at Has/Tak... what are they thinking, dammit? 

I also hate to disagree with SQ7, but maybe the delineations on this board need to be softened up a bit. I understand that a lot of Radicons do far more than "alternate transformations" on their works, and I wouldn't want to belittle their artistic efforts.

However, I think that alternate transformations (like this one), while not permanent, are still modifications, and of enormous interest to the kitbashing community. I think that ultimately it would provide a disservice to Radicons to banish this thread to another section. Just a thought.

On the other hand, add some silver details and panel-lining and it's no longer an issue.

Started painting Brawl and Swindle last night, as a matter of fact. Although I'm doing a top-to-bottom repaint so it's going to take some time. All that Neon has to go.

 

Word. I know all the toys are brighter than their on-screen counterparts, but really?

On a semi-related note, when I get my set, I was thinking of completely abandoning the game-accurate colours and giving the Combaticons a unified colour scheme based around three core colours - I love the way that the red, gold and steel makes the Dinobots pop as a team in this picture and I wanted to do something similar. What colours would you or anyone else recommend, though, please? Silver, dark blue and purple are obvious Decepticon choices, but it's a little obvious and I'd like them to stand out a bit more.

To all those who have posted these new transformations, thank you. I am using a combination of the different suggested transformations found here, and this figure has been greatly improved.

 

I missed post #6 there. Things are fine where they are now.

Typically, any kind of modification that involves actually altering a toy in some way (as in not just merely transforming something a different way) = custom.

 

Here's the thing with FOC Bruticus - he's rubbish in lots of ways. Having got them in hand for the first time yesterday I was quite surprised by how cheap they felt. The bots are, on the whole, quite hollow, cheap to the touch and uninspired. The vehicle modes are very hit and miss. And the combined mode? 'Odd', to say the least.

But what I do love about this toy is that it begs to be played with. It wants to be assembled, to be disassembled and then reassembled again. It wants me to try out the different limb combinations. It begs to be faffed with.

And that's sort of why I've fallen in love with it. I'm only really a display collector so I have tonnes of toys that look great when posed but wouldn't withstand the rigours of regular playing. With some combiners a stern stare will send them toppling! This toy, on the other hand, doesn't want to be put down - it's great.

Anyhow, this is the combined mode I ended up at. I think the proportions are great and the pose-ability is pretty decent.

im defiantly going to have mine this way im gettinng the G2 version but now seeing this its kinda making me want the retail one as well
