Love the details on these! Do you have any WIP pics of the breakdown - how hard is it to pull these guys apart?
First off, thanks to everyone who commented on the turtles, I appreciate it and I'm glad to see you liking these guys! Thank you! Testors black base, P3 Thornwood Green, P3 Battlefield Brown wash. No mixing really required. Thanks! I wish the bases came with them, but unfortunately they don't. The bases come with YJ Sportsmaster, except for the accessories/parts that are with Leo's and Don's. They are plain as crap, which is why they had to get painted up too. The weapons do however come with them, but they are all plastic, no real chain or anything. Thanks! I'm not too big of a WIP guy on non-commissioned pieces, so no pics. Not hard at all, just heat up the joints and pop them apart, simple as that. You can boil them or use a hair dryer. There are plenty of tutorials available on the net should you need any more help, but those 2 methods should offer you no problems on these guys when taking them apart. I went with the hair dryer btw. Thanks again everybody.
Love the detailing and the darker skin tones. Wow! Not crazy about the elbow and kneepads matching their masks. Maybe it'll grow on me. I think that Leo's brighter, high-chroma skin tone clashes perhaps a bit too much with the rest of the team. They feel more earthy and "real-world" while he really jumps out as a cartoon. I think the green is just a bit too intense. zmog
Thank you! The kneepads, elbowpads, and masks matching colors were a throwback to the vintage toys. So it's not like it was me who came up with it, lol. I can understand liking the brown pads on them though since its been quite frequent for the boys to be wearing those and since a lot of people have been painting them up that way. I figured I'd change things up and pay a small homage to the old toys. I wrote in the description that I wanted Leo to be 'cleaner' than the rest so yeah, his colors do "Pop" in comparison to the others. I believe my green choice with the white and blue colors on him helped achieve that. I could agree with you though that it wouldn't hurt if he was a tad darker to match the rest. But I really didn't want him to directly match the other turtles. Thanks for your input and I hope this gives you an understanding on my approach to these guys. Also thanks to everyone again for stopping by and checking these guys out!
Yeah, I could tell that you intended Leo to stand out in the team. I think that he is just a bit too offset from their palette... to the point that he looks like he belongs to a different set/aesthetic. Some of that might be punched up by the photography though. I totally forgot about the original toys matching up their gear colours. Heh. zmog
Those dirty little turtles really look like they live in the sewer. The colors being a nod to the old figures is great. I like, totally love this duuuude!
This is amazing work. The Turtles ended up looking like they walked right out of the earliest issues of the gritty Eastman & Laird comic series. Thumbs up!
