This thread isn't really that specific as to which starscream we're talking about. (although most of us are talking about Prime Starscream) I've got to admit he's always been one of my favorites. I think he's a wild card, you really just don't know when he's gonna turn on Megatron and turn everything on its head. Plus, yeah he's just unique. (which is interesting since he's a seeker and there are 50 kajillion other Jet robots that look just like him) He's the first transformer I can remember just really liking, even though he was a bad guy.

One of the first things I remember about TF is in TFTM where he has to blast his foot to escape. (well that and the infamous coronation scene, lol)

This. Plus, he never fails to make me smile, and he's a character that you never know what he will do! I also love how when he's in control of a situation, or when he has more power than those around him he's confident and powerful. When there are others around him more powerful than he is he will pretty much suck up to that character. Like when Megatron returns he tries to act loyal to him (it's a poor ruse, but only because Megatron knows Starscream too well to fall for it  ), but before hand he's acting like the man in charge, because he knew he was the baddest ass in the Decepticons at the time. Soundwave wouldn't try to directly overthrow him. It's like comparing the high school football team and drama club. Megatron, like the football team, will beat the crap out of you if you mess with him. Soundwave on the other hand will act like the drama club and make your life a living hell through the background and just making things go wrong for you without ever knowing who's doing it. Starscream knew Soundwave wasn't going to try to overthrow him as leader, because he was trying to find evidence for Starscream's betrayal to show Megatron when he was resurrected. Soundwave knew he could get rid of Starscream, but that beating him up might not have paid off. Megatron beating him up on the other hand... :lol

Wow, I got pretty wordy there...

Split nailed it. He's one of the most universally lovable characters, because nobody in his universe loves him.

He is smart, witty, brave, heroic and polite.

I can't say that with a straight face.

Not crapping on your choices, but if I may elaborate on why I feel they, while popular, are not as popular as Starscream, I think it's merely because they're not as well-rounded and comedically timed.

Fowler and Knock Out are both almost purely comedic characters with little growth or developement in any way pst that. Knock Out's only real gag is that he loves himself. Maybe if he was a main character this could be explored and expanded on, but for now he's just a pretty boy and, much like Brad Pitt, that don't impress'a me much. Fowler is also becoming just straight up laughs, and even before he was he wasn't exceptionally deep, either. They're both one page, and that page is comedy.

As far as that comedy goes I also think, compared to Starscream, they both lack the comedic timing. I don't know how Starscream gets away with it, if it's Steve Blum's perfomance or favouritism on the writers' part, but his gags are about 85% perfectly timed. Knock Out and Fowler however? Well, not so much. Fowler's big laughs usually come from when he says silly shit, which is okay, but it's really just the same thing over and over. Same with Knock Out and his ego and self-centered way. Instances are usully dwelled on too long and it always seems slightly off, as if the writers feel the mere fact that he's egocentric is enough to get laughs each time. It's not, sadly. A joke loses it's life when it's just repeated time and again without variation. Starscream has no running joke. His humour comes from his reactions to different events and circumstances rather then one reused punchline each time.

It doesn't make KO or Fowler bad, just my idea why people like Starscream better.

I wasn't aware Prime had more than one.

Not unless you count the WFC/FOC version since there're supposedly in the same continuity as Prime but whatever floats your boat. :)

If they're the same continuity that would technically make them the same character, and thus that distinction wouldn't be needed.

And even if they weren't, the games have their own forum.

I agree with all of this except that Arcee does confide her grief and such to Jack in Predatory and lets Miko know what her past was like with Cliff in Out of the Past. Arcee is indeed starting to be more open with her friends with her past as time goes on just pointing that out. And I find both her and Bulkhead just as entertaining as Screamer. :p

He's easly the most interesting and developed version of him since the Armada version due to there being more to his personalty then just get rid of Megatron. So while Animated Screamer's fun to watch there's also ot much to him other then get rid of Megatron in his personalty.

*sees Kaijuguy posted in a thread I posted in*

*wonders if it has anything to do with some offhand mention of Arcee*

    Hooray I win!

The problem with Arcee is that doesn't really help when, after a season and a half, she's still bogged down by the same problems with no significant (a few words here and there that are immediately forgotten don't count) change or evolution after all this time. As a hero character it just get's tiresome. Heroes are automatically at a disadvantage from villains because of the action vs. reaction philosiphy, so Heroes have to bring more to the table to avoid being judged harshly compared to villains. Starscream's problems change constantly. First Megatron is bugging him, then Soundwave, then Airachnid, then humans, then Megatron again. He's always getting pitched curveballs.

But what made Animated Starscream so great was that his wanting to destroy Megatron was an obsession, and treated as the true focus of the character. And it became all the more hilarious when they had to work together and both were powerless to do anything about it. I mean, no greater Megatron/Starscream interaction exists than Starscream making a snide comment about Megatron finding Lugnut in space aboard Oega, and Megatron just casually smacking his severed head across the room. The circumstance may be specific to Animated, but that scene is pure Megatron and Starscream in a nutshell. In fact, as much as I adore Prime Starscream, he really is lacking in the Megatron vs. Starscream area. But that's Megatron's fault for not being as engaging and well-timed as Starscream, not Starscream himself.

I wished Starscream in the Apex Armor could have taken on Megatron. That would have been neat.

Did you pay any attention in Armada where she could've killed Airachnid in the pod but chose not to and brought her back instead? Or when in New Recruit she ddn't go after Starscream about Cliffjumper and focused on the mission instead? If anything those are signs of progress and I know you saw Arcee being more gentle with Miko in Out of the Past so you also have to admit that's a sgin of progress. Maybe it's taking more time for her to change but then the show's expected to run for a few more years or at least until Season 3 which may lead into 78 episodes in general so her development's taking more time to develop as a result. I may be wrong.

This argument's starting to get old yes and we're never going to think differently in the end of her at least not right now but I think we can both agree that at least she's nothing like the IDW Arcee.

Starscream is aware that his body's not made to withstand Megatron's true brute force. We saw the type of damage he recieved from him already. The red Energon can give him an advantige but still soonder or later it's going to lead down into a showdown with them in the end.

Kaijuguy strikes again...save it for the Arcee thread. You're just proving EVERYONE right now.

I love Starscream, he is easily my favourite character, but his fans are a bit...odd at times.
