Oh please no. I think that kid-oriented TV has gotten preachy enough as it is.

But who all would they get?

    My thoughts:

Omi from Xailin Showdown, Yugioh, Ash from Pokemon, Mikey from TMNT, A power ranger, Ben from Ben 10, Johnny Test, a Loonatic Unleashed, a Bratz, and maybe a few others.

The only thing kids of this generation need are a slap round the head and parents who do thier job properly.

    Amen.

Sometimes the shock factor works too. We need a childhood hero to die from drugs so they can be used as an example. With that said, I'm so sorry Hi-5.

Actually, what kids need is to stop being forcefed propaganda about how drugs and alcohol will "ruin your life"...particularly via trippy-ass cartoons.

I do try...I am a firm believer that I am my childrens' parent not TV, Internet or even the schools. I impart the proper values to my kids.

First off let me state FIRMLY that I'm not disagreeing with you RabidYak

But let's not discount the power of idols and TV. How many of us in our preteen/teen year have had a mother/father who tell you something. Only to think "Yeah whatever" but that when the SAME message is addressed on an episode of 90210 and they say the EXACT same thing your parent said that you have the opposite reaction. *Raises hand* Not saying it happens all the time but I'm sure it happens

Now on the other side of the coin I agree with you guys. Lord some kids these days need the belt. The stuff I've heard kids say to their parents or do when said parents aren't around shock me.

Mark this date. I agree with you 100%.

Although, personally, I will never lay a hand on anyone I love - children or significant others. That's just fucked up.

Even if one doesn't agree with my opinions.Doesn't always mean I'm off my rocker.Glad you see and agree with my point

    It's about THE FEAR.

Not fear to be around them, but fear to ACT OUT around them and fear to get caught. Even though I might've been tempted, there's no way in hell I'd EVER think about cussin' at my parents or doing anything I stood a remote chance of getting caught for.

Actually, I can unequivocally say that never happened. By the time I was a preteen/teen and starting to question some things my parents said I shouldn't do, heavy-handed media messages saying the same carried less weight as they were so detached from reality and absolutely laughable in their execution (90210 being a particularly egregious offender).

They all essentially drew a straight line from "touch the stuff once" to "dead homeless junkie criminal" and never acknowledged the existence of the word "moderation," let alone as a viable alternative. Drugs or alcohol, as of course, drinking alcohol before some arbitrary federal blackmail limit, will only lead to weed, then blahblahblah, ZOMG heroin. Fuck man, the kid in the cartoon is depicted stealing money for weed and, after the cartoon characters subject him to some freaky torturous carnival hellride, is shown that he will wind up looking like a zombie still clutching the needle.

The thing is, media messages like this, the frying pan commercial and its derivatives, or the obligatory ones inserted into teen drama shows are either made by people who A) never did drugs and as such, don't know what the fuck they're talking about, or B) people who did do drugs and not only didn't become dead homeless junkie criminals, but actually grew up, probably went to college, and got jobs making frying pan commercials, writing teen drama shows or drawing psycho cartoons to scare little kids into not doing drugs.
Do you do what the clueless or the hypocrites tell you? I chose neither. That, if anything, was the lesson I learned, and is certainly more applicable, at 13 or 30, than "Don't do drugs."

I was not able to view the video at work..I just turned it on.....And it just reinforces what I said before media should not raise kids parents do. I would like to think that I am doing a pretty good job so far with my 4 kids they seem happy they communicate with my wife and I and I think that they will do all right.

Okay I'm confused are you for or against drug use? Because I honestly can't tell if you're for or against.

And the kid turning into a zombie is symbolic. Meaning he turned into a shadow of his former self which was barely recognizable. It was obvious to me when I saw that. And IMPO it's not a bad mesage

Besides I'm pretty sure that kids do steal from their parents for their drugs. How else would a kid get money (legally) for pot or whatever? Because they certainly don't work for the money

I goofed off alot when I was a kid and only straightened my ass out when dad went into spank mode. Hurt like hell but I probably deserved it and I'll never think it was wrong.
Kids like to play on that borderline and see how far they can cross before they're busted. Then we grow up and rebel in other ways . It's part of their personality budding so it's good for their future charisma I guess
I dont plan on spanking, but Ill spray em with the hose. hehe

Symbolism has no place in health education. I beleive in giving people a sumple summary of all the facts.
