How would it be stupid to give you more choices in Escalation mode? Say they added the DLC to that mode you would then be given the choice to choose between which healer skin you wanted to use. The abilities would still be locked but you would have the choice of character models to choose from for that ability class in Escalation mode. ex Choice to us Optimus or Ultra Magnus as your flak shield character. Not sure how that is stupid in anyway.

I think that is the way it should have been done in the first place. Keep the abilities or whatever is needed for each set "role" but allow at least a few choices for the character skin.

It's a 10 DLC pack with 5 characters, no maps, just pieces for more customization. I have money for this but i'd rather hold off until the big expansions with maps, characters, escalation maps, etc.

While that's technically true in that, with on-disc DLC, you own a piece of storage media that contains a copy of the DLC-related data, that's not the intent.

Strictly speaking, when you buy a game disc with on-disc DLC, you own a copy of data and code that you have not yet paid for, included with the data and code that you did pay for because it's logistically easier than the alternative.

Since these are just extra parts for use in MP I may hold off and hope it goes on sale. I'm not sure yet. I'm more excited for the Dinobot stuff and I hope that consists of more than just parts. I also have to build up my stock of free MS points first! (it takes a while but I don't remember the last time I actually paid out of pocket for DLC)

I mean I dont really see the problem. People that couldnt preorder still have a chance of getting bonuses. It a win win for me, like it or not.

What you're doing is speculating and hoping though. HMS won't be doing this and if they do then there is no point of preselecting characters in the first place as it would have made more sense to have players chose a role when they enter the lobby and this of course this would be a first come first serve thing.

These extra characters would have to be in their own Escalation set which of course mean that either there's already a map in the game for them like there is for Vortex and Wheeljack or there will have to be a map pack to play as them. And seeing as we're getting both Zeta Prime and Ultra Magnus this wouldn't surprise me.

And they don't lose money on every movie fan, casual game fan or anyone else who doesn't buy DLC?

You know, I can understand when people are indifferent to paying for DLC. I cannot fathom why any consumer would flat out insult and just generally bad-mouth those that do have a problem with it though. They aren't hurting you, afterall...though technically you are hurting them by supporting a practice that they do have a problem with and thereby helping perpetuate and spread it simply by your participation.

You don't care to be cheated out of your money...that's fine as it's your money. which one should not kid themselves that this is not what is happening. That's the main rule of business is to try and find new ways to get away with charging more for the same or even less product. It is simply a matter of how much the consumers will allow them to get away with.

DLC is nothing new...we've had mods and the like for as long as games have existed. These different concepts of being charged for it (and at a premium) are new though, and honestly you seriously aren't getting more game than you were before this. That is unless you're a console gamer, in which case previous generations of your gaming platform didn't have the capability of DLC/mods to begin with. That's really what has been sending this all downhill - the moment consoles got the ability to patch in add-ons and their silly marketplaces nickle and diming their community.

Paying for DLC is a fact of life at this point, this is true and unfortunate. However, as a whole, it's going to continue down this slope and degenerate even further unless gamers put their foot down. That's what they're waiting for is to find out "Oh shit, we went too far...guess we can't cheat them with paying for stuff like that...yet" Until they feel like they've hit that point, they have absolutely no reason not to. They don't care about you and all you are doing is lining Activision's pockets...especially with Day ONE DLC that was already paid to produce and the initial price is being used to recoup regardless of if you buy the DLC.

You can tout the benefits of 'on-disk' DLC, but the thing is that if it's produced on the disk you originally bought, you have already paid for the content and thereby it should just be open for you to use with the game you paid for...end of story. Also, as a PC gamer, I really can't be bothered to feel sympathy for the lesser systems and those that whine about patching into their puny HD for a game that they are simultaneously trying to purport that they want to support future developments, which most-definitely would require them to download. Sure, if it's a toss up between day one DLC or on-disk unlocks, the unlocks are better for you console players...but neither one should be acceptable.

You know....PC players had to wait nearly 6 months and have a community player re-write the coding so Zeta could be playable in WFC...and he was on the disc too :lol

I'd much rather pay $10 and have these models accessible day one. I know it sucks, I know it's $10, but to me $10 out of pocket is better then never having them at all...or waiting for a community player to hack the code again 6 months down the road. Like I said, to me at least, having these up for $10 unlock is better then never seeing them get released at all.

Im not expecting them to be nothing more then MP parts/skins but for 10$ they should be playable in Escalation. What really bothers me about Escalation is that there is nothing unique about the characters. You could pretty much swap in any skin/model you want. In WFC the characters felt different now its just one shield, one healer, one supplier, and one turrent. Whats different from Megatron and Brawl in their Escalation maps? The characters will play the same regardless of the look. Might as well let us use the skins we are going to have to pay 10$ for in as many parts of the game as possible.

No more money than they would lose on those players were the content stored server-side. Once the data/code exists, it's easier and cheaper to package it on the disc than to pay Microsoft/Sony/Valve to host it server-side. It seems to be a difficult concept for most, but it's really quite a simple point.

That's just the thing--technically, when you buy a game disc that includes a full, complete game and additional content to be enabled via DLC, you're paying for two things: the game disc, and the full, complete game. You are not paying for the additional content to be enabled via DLC. It's just there for logistical reasons that have already been explained satisfactorily and at length in this thread.

Seems like Gamestop, after all the trouble gave me Havoc for free, that or anyone who preordered the PC version it got it from them.

    Awesomeness.

    And that's my gripe too.

I don't see why we can't select our own characters but instead force upon us a role rather than do both. This is all for the sake of "this character has to do this because it makes sense" e.g. Optimus won't be a healer.

So, you've bought into the BS 'company line' hook line and sinker. Good for you. Games have been around for a looong time without that being the case, so just because they're saying it now doesn't mean anything other than they are playing a line to get more cash out of you. And you are defending their taking of your money...good on you.

It's almost like some perverse, gamer-style version of Stockholm's syndrome. Unless you work for one of the companies it really doesn't make sense why someone would actually defend this sort of shady business practice. I can understand not minding it or being willing to put up with it...but defending it and arguing in favor of it? That's just not sane.

Um...that's because games have been around for a long time without DLC of any kind, or without it being such a common feature. It's not a "shady business practice"! Things are more advanced and more expensive now! Games aren't just made by one programmer sitting at a desk for 6 weeks coding Breakout or Pitfall! So extra, cosmetic, gameplay-irrelevant features will cost more money.

All I'm defending, as someone whose entire line of work revolves around selling products that have really difficult-to-describe physical existences but definitely took time and money to initially create and configure, is a system where someone can create something and offer it for in exchange for money, and people can give that person or group of people money, receive that created thing, and everyone gets to pay their bills and continue living.

And it should be noted that your entire response is ad hominem fallacy in the extreme. You're not providing any logical reason why I'm wrong, you're just saying I'm wrong because I'm bad or I'm stupid or I'm a sheep or something equally irrelevant and provably incorrect. The point you're proving now isn't that what I'm arguing for is wrong, just that you don't particularly like me.

The sad thing is, thanks to confirmation bias, people who agree with you will probably skim right over me calling you out on it and continue agreeing with you anyway.
