I did when i was 5 years old as i remembered my 13 year old big brother taking me to see it at one of mall theaters when we lived in San Diego and it was quite an experience. We both felt sad when Optimus died and cheered when Starscream got fried, we both got the soundtrack on cassette with poster, t-shirts and comic adaptation then later got the movie on video when it came out.

No,I went to a local video store & rented the movie.

I had no idea what the movie was about. I wasn't really wasn't season two that year. I rented the movie, expecting to see a golden age cybertron origin story. sorta what five faces of darkness turned out to be.

I was 10 and I did. Was supposed to see it with my best friend at the time but when I called him up on Sat he had already seen it Fri night. :(

So I got my Mom to take me and my little bro and sis. It wasn't playing at any theater near us. We had to drive like 45 minutes to a theater I'd never seen before or since. (Even at 10 I knew that wasn't a good sign for the Movie's success.)

I had very definite ideas about what I thought would happen in the film from the trailers and toys and it was very little like I expected. I figured Autobot City would certainly turn into Metroplex. And though I knew Prime was supposed to die from the ads I figured he would live until the climax of the film before dying. And that bit where Megatron says "I would have waited an eternity for this" it was in the trailer near Cybertron being attacked by Unicron, so I figured it was damaged Megatron putting aside the War and offering to team up with Prime together against Unicron in the final battle. I was wrong about all of that, but it was still cool.

-ZacWilliam, I remember just being surprised but having enjoyed it as we came out.

Yes. I suppose I must've been around twelve at the time. Took a train into town after school to see it. Apart from the annoying kid that kept repeatedly asking his parent if Kup was Galvatron (when Kup got torn apart on Quintessa all I could hear over and over was 'Is Galvatron dead now?' Gah!) it was a pretty great experience.

I remember seeing it on my 8th birthday, I went in expecting Optimus Prime and crew fighting the decepticons and saving the universe, left in a bit of shock because they killed off some of my favorite characters, but really wanting Galvatron and Rodimus Prime toys.

Went to see it with a friend (think I was about 13 or 14 at the time), I remember being a bit shocked to see characters getting gruesomely killed left and right, and impressed at how the animation was stepped up compared to the series. I also remember how my friend and I exchanged sitcom-style WTF glances the second Weird Al's "Dare to be Stupid" came over the soundtrack.

Wanted to see it, couldn't go, family was poor in the '80s. (Most were.)
Wore it on rental video, though. (I'll bet the VHS, in good condition, with original sleeve, must be worth some money in mint condition...)

Isn't this a bit off topic? It says movie forum, but it refers to the movie continuity. Not the '86 movie.

    Twitter:
I saw '86 movie when it was released.

For a movie aimed at kids, the vast majority of the dialogue was quite sophisticated compared to what kids get nowadays. Lines that would probably be considered to complicated for these times would be:

"Your bargaining posture is highly dubious"
"Spare me this mockery of justice"
"For a time… I considered sparing your wretched little planet Cybertron, but now… you shall witness…. ITS DISMEMBERMENT!"
"Proceed, on your way to oblivion"

The movie itself was pretty good but it clearly lost a fair amount of momentum when trying to usher in the new generation of characters; and of course given how the movie and the tv show were probably being made at similar times we didn't see any newer G1 season 2 characters such as Superion, Menasor, Bruticus and so on.

Production and design of the film actually started in 1984, just as the first season was beginning. Season 2 hadn't even begun, nor had the characters been seen by US or Japanese audiences. Outside of Perceptor, I don't remember a single season 2 bot or con in the movie. I think even the coneheads were season 1.

I saw it in the theater. I was 11, and it was the first movie I saw in a theater by myself because my parents refused to sit through it with me. (Just as well, they'd've been scandalized by the swearing). I was supposed to see it with a friend of mine, but he'd already seen it and wanted to go to something else.

I was just in shock through the whole thing, to the point where I had trouble remembering what I'd seen. I think I knew going in that Optimus was going to die and be replaced by Hot Rod, but the spectacle of seeing my favorite cartoon on the big screen just literally blew my mind.

TT:TM is as much a part of "TRANSFORMERS MOVIE FRANCHISE" as Bayformers. True, when this forum was created it was meant to house the onslaught of traffic brought about by Michael Bay's live-action movies (because I don't think that TT:TM deserved it's own forum), but there's no reason that the animated '86 film can't be in here. The forum description: "Talk about the Transformers Live Action Movies by Michael Bay!" But there is no "G1 Animated Movie" forum. It's a Transformers movie and this is a forum for Transformers movie discussion. There's been several TT:TM topics here throughout the years. In my opinion it's fair game. :)

Blaster, Astrotrain, Blitzwing, the Coneheads. I think Grapple also pops up in the background, though he has no lines.

I only have the VHS, which is in very good condition, except the small amount of dust that can easily be cleaned off.

I didn't find out about it until several years later -There was next to no advertising about it in my country. Would be hard to do back then too - no national TV channels to advertise it in, cinema was not really something kids read in the papers about as we were way too young to read newspapers, internet didn't exist and nobody took animated movies seriously

I wasn't born until '88, so...no. But my dad gave me a vhs copy when I was getting into the reruns when the G2 toys came out. I watched that thing more times than I dare count.
