I replied without reading through the thread, so no. EDIT: Sorry, you're right. It turns out I was thinking of this thread, the title of which was very misleading: Dinobots Coming to TF Prime
You know, with all this...did everyone just like...forget that the writers stated, before Season 1 was even finished airing, that the Dinobots were part of their long-term plans (read: a possible [at the time, confirmed now] Season 3)?
So someone from Prime showed interest in the Dinobots in the future, we're getting a Dinobot centered comic that ties into season 3 and now Gregg Berger is going to voice someone in the show. I think it's safe to say that Prime's getting the Dinobots. My only problem is that they never stop getting Gregg Berger to voice him. How are we supposed to take Grimlock seriously with that stupid voice?
I hope Berger does join Transformers Prime man! It would be awesome and great to bring back voice actors from the past!
Err, pretty sure that was David Kaye doing Grimlock in Animated, the only cartoon since G1 to really feature the Dinobots.... And why not have Berger? A large part of Grimlocks popularity is the way he spoke. "Me, Grimlock!" is one of the most well known lines from G1, it is to Grimlock that 'Roll out!' is to Prime...
I met him at Supercon and he was a class act! When I met him I had such a freaking GEEK OUT I had to go running to my table at artist alley and make him this, and of course give him a copy of EVERY TRANSFORMERS print I was selling!!! He wasn't sure if he was getting a Prime gig when I talked to him, but if this happens, it couldn't happen to a nicer guy!
As much as I'm looking forward to the Dinobots in TFP, I honestly don't want Gregg to voice Grimlock. I want someone NEW for that role. Also, when was Nolan North confirmed? Last I knew he was someone they would like to have voice someone in the show, but that they hadn't actually hired him yet...
Everyone's forgotten about Starscream walking around on the bottom of the arctic. Maybe SKYFIRE is sealed in ice down there, and Screamer is going to thaw him out and try and manipulate him for his own purposes? Maybe Berger is doing Skyfire? Just throwin that one out there since no one's mentioned even the slim possibility of it at all. Aesthetic wise, Skyfire would fit much more with TFP than a Grimlock would (but if it's already confirmed Grimlock is in TFP, well, there's no way around Berger NOT voicing grimy methinks...UNLESS he's voicing Grimy AND Skyfire! YEESSSSS!!!!! (I wish)
I know, but still. Grimlock has had like...three speaking roles. G1, Animated, and now FOC. Berger only voiced 2/3 of them.
That would be completely random and contrived and serve no other purpose than a a slavish G1 homage and will probably have about as much lasting impact as Starscream randomly finding cloning technology and having all his clones appear and die in the episode was. So you're probably exactly right.
That's true, he's voiced a few others. I think it would be a nice change for him to voice another character, he's a TF fan and I'd bet he would be happy to voice other bots as well. Good for him if it's true, tho I don't really care to have any Dinobots in TFP.
I know I didn't forget. He had a guest spot on Rob Paulsen's podcast and mentioned working on "the transformers show"
I was actually talking about recent fiction like FOC. And I don't want any ridiculously stupid characters in Prime. Luckily, the Aligned Grimlock is supposed to be smart but with a speech impediment. But that makes Berger doing the voice worse because I wouldn't believe Berger's Grimlock is smart even if he did speak without the "Me Grimlock Smash!" speech pattern.
Actually if you want to find out what a "Smart Grimlock" sounds like just watch the episode "Grimlock's new brain" and you'll see a Grimlock so smart that he was able to create the Technobots and even power Computron's Computing capabilities by giving him his own newly found intellect. It didn't sound forced or stupid. In fact he sounded like he needed a monocle and a mustache.
Gregg Berger's smart Grimlock reminded me of Beast from X-Men. Which ironically years later Gregg Berger would voice in the X-Men movie tie in video game since he does a stellar Kelsey Grammer impersonation.
