Thanks. Yeah the number of ball joints is a little insane but they do make the tentacles nice and flexible. there are 63 total pieces, 60 ball joints, two claws and the back.
I am thinking about ordering another set myself, maybe in purple. I started to paint a few of the pieces yesterday and they are going to be a pain for someone like me who has never painted anything before. ah yes the wonder learning curve of painting.
Oh snap just what i was looking for, and thank the stars that shapeways has purple as a default [/isverybadatpainting]
I got them in plain WSF, and like morgan1194 said, limp but some paint fixed that up. Very nice and well worth the price.
These are very nice, all we need now is a scaled replica of the Sonic Resonator SW used on WJ , or maybe a small fire ax i've thought about designing a pair of these for my PRID Soundwave myself, but currently lack the means to produce anything physical. While i do have an account with shapeways, i figure it'd be cheaper (materials wise) to make my own with a 3d printer (which i don't have yet)
well after a lot longer then I was thinking I am back with the painted Tentacles. I know have even more respect to anyone on here that paints custom figures. This was my first try at painting pretty much anything and boy was it a lot more time consuming then I thought it would be. I used a darker blue on the outsides, a metallic purple on the ball joint and silver on the claw. I might add some more color here and there but for now I am pretty happy. Thanks to everyone for your comments. I am thinking about incorporating some of the suggesting into a updated set.
Finally got mine, ordered in purple, was surprised by how dark a shade shapeways uses, but meh it works. Took a while to plug all the balls into their sockets, but I'm pleased with the results /high fives zoso1900 edit: oh and if you do a v2 with opening hands, it possible to sell just the hand parts to replace the exisiting ones and keep the tentacle part?
That's the same way I painted mine, only not as deep of a blue. I had some metallic blue and used a little gun metal to make it a darker shade and less of a deep blue. Welcome to custom painting, by the way. Your tentacles were my 1st attempt at painting too. I was wondering how you got yours to look like they pose so easily. I had to use globs of paints on all the joints and a little glue on a few others to make them stiff enough.
Thanks. yeah I will make the opening claws a add on part. Can you upload a picture of the purple? I am curious about the color.
cool, I would like to see them finished if possible. As for the tightness, when I got mine in they were already tight, actually after I painted mine I struggled getting them to pop back in place but once I did they ended up being super tight and poseable. I have to think it is a problem with the printing process. hopefully the added glue and paint helped them out.
Going to order the tentacles for Soundwave which look great and also the kit for Knock Out. Anthony, I agree w you, the little ax would rock. Good 3D printers are expensive and maintenance/refilling ain't cheap either. For me, financially, Shapeways is a good way to go as far as getting pieces for hobby.
