i think i'm going to watch this movie at least 4 times before the end of august. is there any way to remove spoiler tags completely when reading threads? i'd love a tv, movie, or animated spinoff.
just got in from seeing it. Holy Gazooks my mind is blown. Also genuinley got teary eyes at Michael Caine and I didn't even mean too 12/10
Just got back. Not as great as The Dark Knight. But AWESOME. I loved every bit of it. I could see a couple twists coming, but they were still well executed. And my goodness with some of the cameo's I'll leave it at that. This was a great movie!
This film was incredible. Solid 10/10. I just got back from seeing it so forgive me if I don't word things out very well. Spoiler First off: Anne Hathaway = best Catwoman ever. Period. She stole the show for me. I take back any negative comments I made during production. Seeing her prowl around in that skin tight black outfit... hawt. My favorite scene had to be the first encounter with Bane in the sewers. I mean.... holy shit. I knew it was coming, but when Bane broke his back I cringed. He frickin' WRECKED him. He even said the famous "I will break you" line! Shiiiiit dude. The absence of music made the whole scene feel even more surreal. My only major complaint is Bane's death. Like, seriously? They made him into this groundbreaking villain, and then when Talia reveals her true nature he gets picked off like bantha fodder. I was expecting a more epic death after all that build up... Not a complaint, but, something I noticed while I was watching: It seems like this movie requires more interruption than TDK, where as everything was explained through dialogue. Examples: was that Ra's' ghost that appeared in the pit or just an illusion? And when Bruce appeared fully alive in the end with no explanation as to how he survived. Once again, NOT a complaint. Just something I noticed. Which leaves the big question... Did I like it better than The Dark Knight? Answer: Hell yes. Honestly, the only thing that holds TDK up is Heath's portrayal as The Joker. In TDKR, the stakes are higher, the setting is grander, and the entire cast is familial, not just the leading roles. So yeah. As you can tell I loved it.
Spoiler there was an explanation as to how Batman/Bruce survived. he fixed the autopilot remember Lucious was talking to the techs and they told him it was already fixed and Bruce Wayne did it, then Lucious gets this look on his face like "DId he survive" type smile ......remember?
Spoiler Ohhh okay. I remember Lucious talking to the techs but for whatever reason I didn't catch him mentioning the auto pilot was fixed. My bad. xD
Just back from seeing it, loved it. Tom Hardy was fantastic as Bane. Spoiler My only complaint is that the reveal of Talia somewhat diminished Bane. He became basically just another henchman because none of the plan was his. Ok he leathered Batman but he only seemed to do it because Bruce was physically and mentally ruined and eight years out of practice. I much prefer the comic version where Bane plans to ruin Batman, figures out his identity etc on his own. And one tiny nit pick, why couldn't "Robin" be Tim Drake instead of a new character?
One minor nitpick I forgot to mention: Spoiler I would've preferred if they hinted at Nightwing instead of Robin. And yeah, I know it's not how the comics go because Robin comes first blahblahblah. The Nightwing character just seems more appropriate for this series IMO.
Spoiler You mean like Harvey Dent or Selina Kyle? Just because you expect certain characters or events doesn't make it a bad thing. They are working off established material. We all know how Bruce becomes Batman, but Batman Begins did it well so it was still interesting. I knew cop guy was going to take over, especially given how he figured it out on his own. Just felt making him Dick or Tim would be a nice little nod.
Spoiler I find it funny that everyone assumes Bruce has retired from being Batman. Who's to say he can't return, and have Robin assist him in fighting crime?
It's possible but not the direction the movie wants to lead in. Spoiler Bruce has done everything for Gotham. Heck, he saved it from total destruction. Both Bruce, Selina, and Alfred want to live a normal life now. The torch needs to be passed on.
Spoiler Sure, you may have figured it out early in the movie, but others may not have. And I'm guessing the idea was to obfuscate JGL's role from early in production. The Nolans didn't want the casting news to be "JGL's playing Dick/Tim Grayson/Drake," with everyone already having the expectation that "OMG, he's going to play Robin!" Same with Marion Cotillard as "Miranda Tate." You find out their true identities/destinies by watching till the end of the film. Also, this is just my own opinion, and I assume the movie left it open-ended on purpose, but I'm not sure that JGL's character becomes "Robin." His real first name could be just a unsubtle nod to fans, but the series' premise is that Batman as a symbol can endure past one man. It's entirely likely that John Blake just becomes the next Batman.
What? Spoiler One of the major story lines in Nolan's Batman is that Batman is a symbol with no limits. Bruce Wayne has limits as Alfred pointed out in the beginning of TDK and Bruce's obvious phyiscal state in TDKR (the guy no longer has cartilage in his knees!). In TDK Bruce wants to have Dent to be the man that replaces the symbol of Batman so he finally be with Rachel. The problem is that Dent gets turned (as he is a just a man) and Rachel dies. TDKR is about Bruce realizing that he must pass the mantle of Batman for the both the salvation of Gotham and himself. Bruce makes sure that Alfred sees him at the cafe with Selina so Alfred knows that Bruce has left Gotham for good and found someone (Alfred's dream). A lot of Selina's role is Bruce finding a companion with a similar past. Spoiler Also, the autopilot thing was brilliant on Nolan's part for a particluar scene. In retrospect, the scene where Bruce is wide-eyed in the cockpit before the bomb blows, it is like he is more scared of what is going to happen next rather than dying by the bomb explosion. It is like he is thinking "Oh s**t I am actually going to get away with this, but what happens now!"
