I enjoyed the movie, but I have one major criticism:

Bruce's injuries present at the start of the movie were completely unnecessary and the first hour dragged on because of it. Not long after Batman finally makes an appearance, Bane breaks his back, crippling him... again. If Bruce was in a better physical state at the start of the movie, the movie would have moved at a faster pace.

    7/10

Well, I dunno about that. It was necessary because it helped distance him from his last outing as the Batman

To me, this was probably the worst one at of the trilogy. Still liked the movie but it was definitely not better than the 2 and probably on par with the first.

    prepare yourselves:

For about a year, I had followed it, worshiped it.. From the sight of the first teaser poster, to the witness of every TV spot, featurette and trailer, and even spoiling it a little for myself. Twice. I was beyond hooked. Of course I am going to send out my thoughts and emotions about this long-awaited spectacle. And no, I am not going to spoil it, because this is a masterpiece that the movie-going public so dearly needs to behold. This isn't because I am looking at obsessed in the rear-view mirror with the Dark Knight trilogy. This is coming from a purely critical view. I haven't seen that many movies, ask anyone. But I'm prepared to say that The Dark Knight Rises is a movie that stands on its own. Proudly.

The carpet named "expectations" on which I stood, was violently swept from beneath me. I have watched every single trailer and slice of footage I could track down and repeatedly watched and examined to the point I was quoting the film before itself. And even then, Mr. Nolan managed to abruptly turn this thing on its head and leave me gasping. Ok, maybe that's because I took this seriously, but still. I'm prepared to say, that anyone with a functioning mind will be, as I am still right now, shaken. Surprised. Astonished. What I can also say is that "Rises" is not only a different film to anything to arrive at a box office, but within the trilogy itself. Rises is a supremely unique and amazing masterpiece. A wondrous work of emotional and dramatic art that offered something very rare in today's cinematic world, and something that said-world desperately needs...

    A genuine sense of jeopardy.

As a novice critic, I am astounded. As a Batman fan however, so many emotions and feelings come rushing to mind at once its so very hard to grasp the correct term at this very moment. I'm still shaken. Literally. It brought me to tears, it made me jump, and most importantly, shocked me. To fully understand the complexity and subtle hints of loyalty to the Batman name, you have to either know your Batman, or simply concentrate. And even if you're just looking for a good time, have 2 and 3-quarter hours to spare, I promise you, I implore you. Look no further. I won't murder you if you don't like it. I'm not here like a Christian with his faith and shoving this movie down your throats and ordering you to worship it. I'm not here preaching to you all that this is the greatest movie of all time. It isn't. There were flaws, miniscule ones. And personally, for my liking and personal atmosphere of the Nolan franchise, it carried one in the fact it was a little "too dark" for both my expectations and compared to the previous 2. But it was the epic conclusion. And it needed to step it up the notch of unpredictability. And my god, did it do so. "Rises" somehow manages to present unpredictability, suspense & tension, shock and surprise like no other. And yet, somehow when the dust has settled, throw it back in your face. In a good way, of course. And perhaps most satisfyingly is that "Rises" is true to the Nolan saga, in a very deceptively intelligent manner. It's true, it's suspenseful, it is magnificent.

Christopher Nolan has created something truly astonishing.

I'm not even sure if like, any of that made sense. I'm still amazed.

I have to say, I really enjoyed the movie, but it was a bit too much at some point. Blockbusters always have to be over the top epic (as that is the trend nowadays in Hollywood), and this certainly was, but only slightly over the top. I just think some of the stuff in the ending was a bit unncessary, unless they were going to continue on with these films; and why the hell does everything have to be a trilogy...lame. They could continue this with the same cast and crew as long as they were on board. I understand they would maybe want to move on and "spread their wings" artiscally, but come on, get over yourself. Let's see more Bale as Batman/Wayne, Levitt as Blake/&@$!%...., I guess all my babbling is in vain...but whatever. I also get that artistically with the ending we should use our imagination as to how things continue, that's the point obviously, but again, the trilogy trend/gimmick in Hollywood is dumb. How about a little fan service huh? You know people want this, you know there's a market (gigantic market) for it, why not do it? Ahh well, I guess it's too much to ask in a time where inspiration is pretty much MIA. Thanks alot Hollywood, you suck the proverbial balls.

You do know there is a much more gigantic market that not only doesn't give a shit about fan service, but would in fact be confused or pulled out of the movie by too much of it, right? These movies aren't made for comic book fans; they're made for everyone.

And if Nolan wasn't able to end his movies definitively with the third one, you DO realize he wouldn't have been given the freedom to do half of what he did here, right? He would have had to play safe and maintain a status quo so that he or another director could continue the series indefinitely. Boring.

The point was to show the toll that years of that lifestyle would have on his body, and that he wouldn't be able to keep it up forever. Think Kingdom Come. It wasn't unnecessary. It was central to the theme of the movie. "The Legend Ends".

Who's to say there would be a status quo? With the success of these films the studios would most likely have enough foresight to see that Nolan obviously knows what he's doing. He would probably have just as much freedom.

If you think WB is going to greenlight
continuing Batman movies featuring someone other than Bruce Wayne as Batman
    , then you are crazy.

One of the few things that all of the greatest stories ever told -- from Moby Dick, to The Sun Also Rises, to The Great Gatsby to The Maltese Falcon to whatever else -- all have in common, is that they all have an ENDING. They don't continue forever beyond the point where everything is watered down and has repeated itself a million times. That is a luxury the monthly comics don't have. The fact that the story in the movies is allowed to end is a good thing.

I am knocking a point or 2 off my original rating for TDKR, I am giving the film a solid 8/10. While I loved the film, when digesting and thinking back over the film, the film is not has groundbreaking, or as well written as the first 2, especially TDK which to this day has taken comic book genre to a whole new level. I will give everyone in 2 to 3 weeks time my likes and dislikes of the film, when more have seen it

To vaguely sum up how I feel, I'd put it on the border between "great" and "excellent." It's got quite a few flaws and probably isn't as good as TDK overall, but it's still very well made for the most part and I really like the way in concluded the series. I will be hoping very strongly that they don't continue the story in this continuity, or that if they do they at least
only focus on Blake and never have Bruce Wayne or Selina Kyle return.

If there isn't another after that ending I'll be very very surprised. Remember there was gonna be no TF4 either.....money talks and WB have a money printing franchise here.
It's too co-incidental leaving it wide open with the repaired bat signal, 'Robin' finding the Batcave and Bruce Wayne surviving.....I wonder what happened to Fox tho....did he die?

I also totally called Blake as Robin as soon as he took his news to Wayne early in the movie and it was reinforced the way Wayne was basically telling him to wear a mask to protect his identity.

The Superman teaser was cool too, nice sonic boom effects.....bring on the Justice League movie!!

Second best comic book movie after The Dark Knight. I enjoyed it more than Avengers. The
    Robin
thing pissed me off though. I really hope they reboot after this. Nothing should be done with the Nolan universe unless Nolan comes back.
