The micron line is not part of this rant. The main line with deluxe + including the fe and rid is a mess and was not planed well. To much short packaging important toys and overloading on bee. So toys come out some don't. Stupid gimmicks from the rid line. This is why cyberverse is so far the superior line. Most characters. Yea small breakdown but it better than none. Lots of easy to find vehicons! Vehicles. does not get scalped as much. No stupid weapons they might be clear but they stay as a weapon. sadly no soundwave yet and airachnid has been confirmed but no pics.
My only real problems with the line are the same problems I've had with Transformers since 1984: 1. I can't afford everything I want. 2. I can't find everything I want. 3. I'll get 3-4 really good toys, followed up by a really crappy "WTF?!" toy (either poorly designed or crappy quality). Plus another problem I didn't have as a kid: 4. The Internet. Without the Internet, I wasn't so aware of what I was missing. Overall, I really like the Prime line.
I almost wish I had set out to collect Cyberverse instead, for the reasons you stated, along with the lower cost.
I like the line. I broke down and bought Arms Micron Breakdown before we found out that Hasbro has no current plans for that mold, and I'm glad I did. I feel I only might have overpaid on First Edition Voyager Optimus, but I really like the toy and I'm glad others will (hopefully) soon have a shot at that toy. I had to resort to getting the Takara First Edition Cliffjumper and Bulkhead, but again no regrets with them. The smaller, hollower figures are a bit saddening, and the lack of paint is painful for some. (Knock Out especially) Almost every line has at least one figure that is utter shit, and sadly Airachnid is that toy for Prime. But what really makes it hard to keep with it is that the distribution for anything except wave 1 is ass! Usually Canada is like one, maybe two waves behind the US. But why is Canada stuck on wave 1 while the US is onto wave 4 now?! I don't care who's at fault, but they need to do something about it! Hell, skip wave 2 and go straight to wave 3. Arcee and Ratchet carry on into that wave, and there's only one 'Bee per case to sit there gathering dust-I mean, for little Timmy to bug his parents for. So instead, I save or spend that money that could have gone to Walmart or TRU elsewhere.
What the line does well, it does really well. PRID: Arcee, Ratchet, Wheeljack, and Soundwave are fairly universally considered awesome. PRID: Vehicon would be if folks could find him. I personally love PRID: Cliffjumper. I will admit I'm done though. Distribution issues makes it impossible to find the later wave figures and the Voyagers are junk. I'll buy FE bulkhead when he hits TRU, but I just can't buy any more past that.
I think it has something to do with the fact that MPs can be priced individually, but toys confined to a class size has to be consistent with the cost of production for the other voyagers in the wave/line.
I don't plan on focusing on "collecting" this line. I may get a Jet Vehicon or 2, and that Silas Breakdow whenever that drops, Ultra Magnus is a must, and may be one of the SkyQuake/Dreadwing boys. I plan to go most third party afterwards
Definitely into the prime line. Its the only thing I will collect aside from G1-esq figures. Very happy with my TF Prime display shelf so far. Still need Jet Vehicon and Breakdown.
I haven't really been impressed with the line from the start. There are a few bots I may pick up eventually but that's even doubtful. At this point I may end up skipping the TFP line completely and going with FoC instead. I already pre ordered G2 Bruticus but have no desire to spend any money on TFP toys.
Collecting nowadays is really easy, imo. You can buy everything you want online and never really have a hard time obtaining new figures because of that. I like the store hunt but when I go hunting in store I go expecting nothing new and end up pleasantly surprised when I find something. Yes, distribution is crappy but if you have it in your budget nothing is ever out of reach now.
I will start enjoying and praising the Prime line when my local stores receive Wave 2 of anything. Seriously, we have the Cyberverse players and those OP, BB and KO RC cars but no Deluxe, Voyager and Cyberverse past wave 1.
Replacing FE with crappier RID's is pretty close to making me end collecting. Also seeing all the cyberverse and bot shots just taking up space when they could be used for more deluxe and voyager figures.
Oh please. I paid 70 shipped for both my Optimus and Bulkhead, around 60 shipped for my entertainment pack, and 35 for a Cliffjumper. you know who screwed me in this situation? NO ONE. I wanted them, I paid a price I was comfortable with going off the information I had at the time. I don't feel screwed at all. I decided I didn't want to wait to see if Hasbro's plan of trying to get them out later on would pan out. That was my doing. So if I wanted to blame anyone, that would be my fault. I guess I could also blame toys r us, as they're the ones that are responsible for us not getting the rest of the FE line in the US. Not hasbro though, they're doing the fans a favor by getting these out. Still, I don't regret my purchases at all. I didn't break my finances over it, I could afford to spend what I did, so I did. and I've had them for months already, and had the peace of mind that I had them in my collection. if you paid 60 for a breakdown, that's all on you. I paid 35 for mine. and I don't even buy hasbro's "no-man's land cost-wise" excuse for Breakdown not coming here, at least not the way most are interpeting it. I'm more inclined to think that aside from looking cool and having a neat transformation, they're not releasing Breakdown because he is an absurdly hollow, crappy toy that feels like it could break every time it's in my hands. Fine for collectors, but for kids? The thin, shoddy construction of the leg panels don't give me much hope for this thing in the hands of a kid. I think it's possible that the "cost" wouldn't lie in releasing the toy, but rather making it reach the same standards the rest of the line has as far as durability and build quality goes.
All in all, I'm liking the line. I love the cross of movie and animated-esque looks. I have a fair assortment of Cyberverse and larger figures. There are the figures like vehicon, wheeljack, soundwave, ratchet and arcee that are great toys, Vehicon especially. Are there the duds? sure, but doesn't every line? are there the ok figures? Despite people complaining about them not being as good as FE, Cliff and BB are decent figures. Knockout, once you find your own way to to place a few of his pieces, he is looks good. Hey, don't knock them until you try them. Both cyberverse and botshots are fun little figures to collect. Plus, they are incredibly cheap plastic crack lol
I tried. I bought the entire first edition line when they came out. First started fiddling with Cliffjumper. Transforming him to robot mode was a cinch. But when I spent a good part of an hour trying to turn him back to car mode to no avail, I realized that the "philosophy" of the figures wasn't for me. I sold everything all at once as soon as I could.
