None. Prime is Prime, and Generations 1 and 2 have a logical, story-based reasoning for their titles.

Labeling something as "Generation 3" or whatever number just comes across as an ignorant, outside view of the franchise IMO.

The fact of the matter is, we only call The Transformers "Generation 1", because there wasn't a specific name for the line before Generation 2. Everything else HAS a name.

Where does fall of cybertron fit in though, it can be linked to G1 but Hasbro insist it's Prime as well...

According to Hasbro, WFC and FOC are in the same Continuity Family as Prime. To me the games are much more in common with Prime than G1

However if you choose to regard the games as something different, that's a choice for your personal-cannon

Let me see, always having in mind animated shows only, right?:

-G1: original 3 seasons, HeadMasters, Victory, Masterforce, Zone, Beast Wars and Beast Machines.

-G2 is the remix of the original series, we all know that. ^^'

    -G3 is the RIDverse.

-G4 is the Armadaverse (Armada, Energon and Cybertron).

    -G5 is Animated.

    -G6 is TFP.

If we count the movieverse then is G7 and not G6 but if we decide to count the movie then we gotta have in mind comics as well.
LEts just say that Prime is the G6 in the animated series only. XD

My only question with this and any other that separate BW from BM, is how does one classify the same characters as 2 different generations?

G2 was the same as G1 basically. Only "remixed". So every Generation equals one show. But actually it doesn't make sense calling them G3, G4, etc. Generations 2 was just a marketing device and G1 was not really called Generation 1, so no no need to classify the rest in that manner.

Well if we start pulling in those Japanese only shows, we have to include TF Headmasters, Masterforce, Victory, and Zone.

We talking about shows or toys?

'cause, for the toys, I view it this way:

    1-the die-cast generation
    2-the universal joint generation
    3-the ball-joint generation.

Interesting question - Here's my take:
    Gen1 - Gen1
    Gen2 - Gen2
Gen3 - Beast Era (BW BW2 BWN BM)
I feel RID could fit in with Gen3 or Gen4 as it has similar motifs to both but ultimately it leans over to Gen4 for me.
    Gen4 - UT (RID A/E/C)
    Gen5 - Movieverse
Gen6 - Aligned (WFC, Prime, Awesome Rescue Dudes)

Note Animated doesn't go anywhere. With one show and not much else backing up I don't feel like it was a generation, just a short burst of pleasurable excitement inbetween a lot of pounding from others.

The fact that Fall of Cybertron and Rescue Bots are in the same loose continuity still tickles me up.

I agree with Hot Shot. Outside of G1 and G2, I don't see any need to label 'generations'.

This is how it is for me. I'm glad I'm not the only one who considers IDW it's own generation.

Seriously? What about the comics and Almanacs?

Animated was like fifty times bigger than any one of those others. It's certainly more of a generation than G2.

    1. G1 and G2
    2. Beast Wars and Beast Machines (Beart Era)
    3. RID
    4. Unicron Trilogy
    5. Bayformers
    6. TFA
    7. TFPrime

Of course G2 was just a re-branding of Transformers at the time, it really shouldn't be counted as a real Generation, only interpretative Era's. I consider this to be the 7th Era of Transformers. As for the comic's they are either direct interpretations or reinterpretations of 1 or more of these Eras.

G1: G1 toys, 80's toons and comics, DW comics, and IDW comics
    G2: G2
    G3: Classics toys

    Nothing else is Generation Anything.
