    Hey all,

So Super7 is this awesome vinyl/designer toy company in SanFran. We visited with them this spring for ShelfLife (The Ultimate Collector's Platform - ShelfLife) and they do great work.

They just announced at SDCC that they have been assigned Transformers licensing.

    Here's the display:

    What does this mean:

    - 2 ft Transformers Machinder toys that will mimic their approach to StormTrooper and Boba Fett ones

    - 6" high quality vinyl/designer TF toys...be excited, these will likely be amazing like this:

    - Retro themed G1 art prints, t-shirts and glasses as they would have been released back in the day.

Very excited to see what comes out of this...their design chops are amazing.

    Cheers

    James & Team ShelfLife

WOW! The nostalgia freak in me is excited, but the realization of how much those Shogun Warrior Transformers will cost just made me frown a bit.

For those who don't know, these guys at Super7 are true toy nerds, almost to a fault. They were so obsessed with mimicking the original process of creating Jumbo Machinders when they took on the Stormtrooper project that they used very expensive and outdated production methods just to make this as authentic to late 70s/early 80s as possible. They could have produced these for far cheaper, but they wanted to make them EXACTLY as they would have been made back in the day. That gets costly fast, especially since the factories didn't exist anymore, and will most likely make these Jumbos far out of the price range of the average TF collector. Bummer, because they will be HUGE and full of retro goodness.

Yeah, we're likely talking $150-$200 for the 2ft optimus with firing hand missiles, but that's on par with what we pay for Masterpiece stuff, and for a lot of the "I only collect Optimus" guys I imagine this is an automatic addition.

Not 100% sure, but I think they we're trying to make it look like the '76-'77 Kenner Stormtrooper figures. Those didn't look that great, either.

This is definitely a dream toy to me. I cant wait to see it. They've been taking so long on their Boba Fett though I can't imagine how long it will be until we see any real pics of Optimus.

My guess is spring 2013 for the 2ft Optimus. Perhaps sooner for the first vinyl figure as the production cycle is slightly shorter on those.

I'd be satisfied with a 24" Metal Force type Optimus & Soundwave.

If they do a Fortress Maximus then that'll be a descent in scale stand in for those who don't have the real deal.

The it's time to become an Above Average Collector! :D  I agree with all you say, all kidding aside. Still this, may take some collectors or their collections up a notch, sort of like the complete Star Wars Sage dragging me into the Blu Ray era, haha.

Other than cost, the big factor here, no pun intended, is that these toys are going to be huge. A series of 24" tall figures might push the physical boundaries of some collections too. This is also amusing given the notion I've come across here and across the fandom that we would not see, for example, a reissue of Fortress Maximus. Perhaps there has been some change of heart from Hasbro? I'm not dismissing the theory that a 24" toy falling on a small child could be harmful but this news flies in the face of that. ;)

To be clear, I don't actually think Soundwave is planned as a Machinder so far. Pretty sure it will be the first non-transforming, deformed vinyl toy under this license by Super7. See the Mongolion sample from their Snakes of Infinity line above.

I'd be all in for any merchandise with the original, official 84-85 G1 Artwork. Been looking for that for years.
But no thanks on any super-deformed vinyl TF character figures.

Am I the only one who thought when they say "Super Shogun" and Transformers, they thought of Transformers built like samurai armor?

....hmmm. That's actually not a bad idea...
