How about Simon Furman as a TFilm4 scriptwriter?

I recall he got his start writing the UK Marvel releases and took over writing both US and UK comics later. He was not involved in the earliest (and best IMO) Marvel comics.

As opposed to those three yahoos we got who could barely write decent dialogue or gripping scenes, much less give the robots proper characterisation?

Heh. :)  Is it OK if I vote for none of them and we find a good writer somewhere else?

One example off the top of my head: Peter David, who wrote the DOTM book adaptation.

I think I would rather he be some kind of story consultant with regards to contributing TF lore and knowledge. He and the scriptwriter(s) would sit in a room and Furman would pitch in as much as he could to make the script more Transformery.

Please no. Not Allen Dean Foster either. The adaptation novels are awful.

I'm for it, for one reason only. When it inevitably turns out just like the first three, then maybe, just maybe, the fandom will stop blaming the writers for how the movies turn out.

Seems like most of those people (if they were the ones voting as such) were more in favor of him just as a consultant.

Love him, bless him and always enjoy his work (even on Alpha Flight), but there is NO WAY that the powers that be would hand the reins to a billion dollar movie franchise to an unproven movie script writer. All the episodes of X-Men Evolution and 300 UK comics will not change that unfortunately.
He has already influenced the films though, just through the sheer body of work he did. The "seven Primes" of ROTF is close to his original thirteen concept, and the aligned continuity make it one and the same.

At the most I would like to see him (and Budiansky) as some sort of advisor to the script-writers, to help expand on the lore and overall mythology from the brand's history.

I think Ehren Krueger did fine as is, so if Furman was co-writer (or at a minimum here, "consultant"/"advisor"), I'd be happy. Just basically someone else on board to "represent" Transformers, if you know what I mean. The Transformers Agent, as it were, supervising the script on behalf of the Transformers franchise and stuff.

Also, I think Fury should have a chat with Furman about this. "Which leads us to believe that in this juncture we’d only like to use you as a consultant." :D

Other than the War Within, I haven't read any of his work. Although I did enjoy the War Within. If he is as good as what people say, I would want him, as some have said, as a co writer or merely a consultant. He writes comics, not movies. But any amount of contributions from him would be a vast improvement on the three stooges we already had.

I'm not certain if someone who adapts what someone else has written should do the writing but the DOTM novelization was definitely better than the movie.

I think I'd rather have Furman (as much as I love his writing) on story/plot/scenes, etc...pretty much anything other than dialogue because dialogue is not his strong suit.

I think Furman is alright, but I'd prefer to see Bob Forward and Larry DiTillo take a crack at a Transformers film. They have experience working in TV at least and have a track record of turning weird, tepid stuff into watchable stories. That is if Bay can keep his hands off the script long enough to actually listen to them and let them craft a solid story.

I was never a fan of Bay's stuff and I was really hoping DotM would be his last one so we could have a fresh take on the franchise in TF4. However, with Battleship failing and GI Joe getting pushed back, I suspect Hasbro will treat Bay as the goose that laid the golden egg and keep doing whatever they have to in order to bring him back. I just hope that between him, Paramount and Hasbro they get a writer who can concoct as half-way decent story.

I don't think Furman should be a co-writer... I think he should be THE writer for the 4th film... On top of that, He should tell Bay how he wants it done, and not let Bay charge in and rape the story.

Is there any way that we could vote Mr. Furman in????

Mmm, I really don't like what he's done with Arcee in the comics and there probably wouldn't be any female Transformers in the fourth TF movie if he wrote it (not that I'm saying that there are any guaranteed femmes anyway), but he's got to be a major improvement over Bay. I like the movies, but I acknowledge that they can be much, much better than they are.

I would love for him to be in any sort of writing position for TF4. With him there we'd have hope for a movie with better characters. And dialogue. And Transformers. But I guess that's all a matter of balancing Bay's control and the marketing influence, not just the writers.

And hearing a Furmanism in the middle of TF4 would make my day, out of place or not.

Agreed. Although doing an adaptation does not demonstrate a person's full talent, he did improve upon the material he was given, which shows potential. (Wouldn't everyone have wanted DOTM to be better?)

Peter David has done a lot more than the DOTM adaptation. His background (look it up in Wikipedia) along with his familiarity with Transformers while writing the novel may lead to some very good work.

Forward and DiTillo wrote some great stories. Ian Weir, who wrote Code of Hero--my all-time favorite Beast Wars episode--would also be a welcome addition to the potential candidates.
