One must wonder the common sense of keep twisting Bay in making more films when he wants to move.

I wouldn't mind a new director, but the course for Bay is that, despite all the criticism he got, at the eyes of many fans he is the only one who has done the best job to portray realistic CGI alien Robots in a way no even Hasbro could have concede.

Sadly, he's gonna be stuck with this until this gets burned.

Ask for respect when you pummel and harp on G1 and post G1 for not being movie aesthetic. Right...

    I'll just leave this here.

if they can change them so you can tell wtf you're looking at on screen I'll be happy.

I think the only things left to bring into the story now are headmasters and the citybots.....or unicron

I probably should have been more clear, but I"m not comparing the movies but the franchises. The first two Batman movies, I LOVE and in fact, I love more than the current trilogy. I hold them dearly as they're the movies that got me into comics in the first place. I think they're great movies, but they ARE silly. And at the time, in 1988, they weren't very well received by Batman fans. Hell, the very first comic book argument I ever got into was from that movie. It's hard to realize fan reactions from the time before the internet, but a lot of complaints and criticisms toward the Bay Transformers movies were lobbed toward the Burton Batman movies as well. Complaints were abundant about how they got the costumes wrong, turned Catwoman into a psychologically scarred girl, made Penguin a circus sewer monster, had the Joker be the one who killed Wayne's parents, making Gotham City this near German Expressionist backdrop, as opposed to a realistic city it's always been, or how it doesn't take the franchise seriously... And I could go on and on and on with the complaints. However, it also brought a lot of people into Batman, who's opinions of it was nothing more than the "Biff Bam Pow!" of Adam West or the Superfriends. Now, about close to 25 years later, there are fans who look back on those movies with respect, because that's how they got into it. But there are some older comic fans who still REALLY Hate those first movies, even though a lot of what we assume has always been there in the Batman mythos was established in those movies.

The first Batman movie wasnt about making a faithful Batman movie, but about making a Batman movie that wasn't a god awful joke meant for little kids. And they did. And in many ways, Transformers is the same. Like I said, I'm talking franchises and not movies. In twenty to twenty-five years, how will the Transformers fans who are kids now, who were brought into our eccentric group of fans look back on the current Michael Bay movies? Will it be with disdain like many of the current fans do? Or will it be with nostalgic warmth, like a lot of us do with Beast Wars and Generation One?

The cynic would say it's the former, but having been one of those fans brought in my Batman, and having talked to fans of another franchise, the Power Rangers, and how fondly they look back on the first seasons of Mighty Morphin'... I'm always going to assume it'll be the latter. Maybe I'm wrong. Wouldn't be the first time... But I don't think so here.

In the super-secret Bay-Fanboy handbook, right underneath "Bay can do no wrong", and before "Transformers is for stupid little kids, so immature robot testicle humor is just fine."

It's also in the "Embrace CHANGE!!!!...But don't change directors or design aesthetic because that would be bad" section.

Not to burst the insult bubble, but one of the complaints about the movie look was that the robots looked too much like the Bionicle figures. Let's see and who makes Bionicle figure, oh look Lego is the maker of the Bionicle line.

So yea saying the old look is made out of Lego parts doesn't really work as an insult because the movie robots have been compared to figures made from parts by Lego.

My take on the matter is that the designers wanted to you know, try something new. Sure, G1/Alternators designs COULD work, but they're obviously not going for that. They're doing their own thing.

This is a well thought out post. Touche my friend.

The main point I'd like to comment on is how the new generation of fans are going to react to these movies 25 years from now. The movie forum, I'm assuming, is full of those new fans brought in by the movies. They'll be the ones that are more than likely going to carry this franchise for years to come.

The pre-movie fans (those goddamn Geewunners! ) will hold on to their respected eras, movie fans will hold to theirs.

Last TF movie by Bay? He'll set the franchise up for the 'next guy'? Is he telling the truth this time? If he is, I might actually watch TF 4 (Plot - Unicron arrives. Eats everything. Makes a funny face. Sequel = reboot.)

After the way "Battleship" aka. "transformers without transformers" bombed and "The Avengers" performed in contrast, the writing is on the wall. You can't just make a movie with flashy effects and a big cast of stars and then forget about the plot. It's not going to work anymore. Bad news for Bay, because that is the king of movies he specializes in. He made 3 movies that had great special effects combined with sci-fi channel movie plots, and now the public wants better. He dug his own grave. IMHO, as a director, he's finished.
