Has anyone tried to put some Red Sharpie on Knockout's maroon. Will it look any good or show accurate?
That's a really bad idea. Sharpies are not a substitute for paint. Maybe a tiny detail here and there at most, but a huge panel like that will look beyond shitty.
Absolutely this. I have some paint sharpies (not regular ones) that I use for detailing, but more than a small area looks awful.
I totally agree with these guys. I'd rather spend the extra resources with paint than to ruin a $12 figure.
Sounds like a fantastic way to make the toy look like garbage. Bad marker coloring on Knockout, of all TFs. I love it.
Go to a hobby store before you waste money on "maybe" paint there. You'd be hard pressed to find anything but spray paint really at Wal-Mart. It may be there and may work after you get through a few trial runs of a dozen craft paint but there's a reason folks use the hobby paints. Model Master and Citadel/Games Workshop acrylics are great brands to start out with and you can order them online if there's no hobby store around. I still use them and used them on both those pictured. No clearcoat on either yet. Get some Future/Pledge with Future Floor Finish for that and it is at Wal-Mart in the cleaning aisle.
Krylon Fusion is the only paint I buy at Wal*mart for customs other than the Folkart sky blue I use for eye detailing (such a small portion is used that it make little difference, plus I add Future to it). For other paint, I'll go to a hobby store or online [now that there are no stores around me that sell paint]. I never use the craft paint by itself - I always mix it with something. It's no good on its own.
That's my problem too, the only hobby store close closed recently. I came back one day after not visiting for a couple months and it just had vanished. The closest one is a two hour trip so it doesn't happen much. The paint is cheaper than ordering online at the Hobby Lobby but only if I happen to be in the area. Krylon I have bad results with because it's really humid here. Folk Art is decent if you can even get it since most WM's took the craft section down to a fourth of what they were too. Paint and hobby stores are getting to be a hard thing to find any more IMO.
I would have to disagree with you on that, Allen. I think this is the first time we've ever disagreed . I hope we can still be friends. Anyway, craft paint (FolkArt in particular) is pretty good when protected with Future. It really depends. Some of FolkArt's stuff is decent, whereas some of it is tacky. I wouldn't bother with any of the yellows, but their metallics are pretty good. If you use a good primer and coat it properly, it ought to be fine. I actually painted the nosecone on my MP-11 a light metallic blue to match the factory blue. I used 2 bottles of FolkArt to achieve the closest factory match. I also applied 5 or so layers of Future.
Sapphire Blue? I had it and another base blue close to it and used them for eye paint. It was pretty decent IIRC.

Actually, you're agreeing with me more than you think, as you're using Future with it There have been times where I've used model paints on their own without Future, whether that's mixing it or applying it as a top coat. I actually used to use some of the metallics as well, but I've simply switched to silver and gold enamel. I think the craft paint is good if you need to mix a color. However, I'd always put either some kind of modeler's clear coat or Future mixed in with it as well. My Alternators Buster is one such example: Buster - Alternators - Binaltech Customs - TFW2005.COM I used a green and a metallic but I also mixed some clear coat in with it. It was a bit of a pain to work with, but both myself and the client are happy with the results
The only time I uses sharpies for anything is for a quick reference, like to chrome out a rim with a silver sharpie. If I like how it looks, then I go to paint. I use Warhammer style acrylics. They coat nice and look boss.
