    Hey gang, what's shaking?

I've been on the fence for quite some time now regarding whether or not to start watching this series. Now I have seen the Darkness Rising five-parter, and would rate it as "above average" [some interesting concepts here and there, disposable villains, humans are hit-and-miss, and I quite like the aesthetics].

So...do I take the plunge or not, in terms of making an investment timewise (show) and financially (toys)? While I realize what 99% of the responses will be by asking this in a TF: Prime forum on a Transformers site, what would really be helpful would be comparing the show in relation to other TF entities. My TF background:
-G1 (American): tons of fun, can get REALLY stupid as it was a product of the 80s. But I still love it to death regardless of the nostalgia goggles. G1 toys are my main collecting focus.
-Beast Wars: a gutsy change in direction for the franchise that paid off, I really enjoyed the storytelling and tight rotation of characters. I own zero BW toys though.
-Animated: a lot of fun all around, while paying homage to the franchise's past. I only own two toys from the line (Arcee, Wreck-Gar) since I never cared for the show's aesthetic.
-Bay movies: like many others, thought the first movie was great, hated the second one, third was ok (some great highs, but when it was bad it was awful). Felt the look worked for live-action, but not my cup of tea toywise as I only own a few of them.

And as stated in the thread title, please refrain from any spoilers.

Thanks in advance for your input!

It's "okay." IT gets boring seeing the same setting over and over again and dealing with annoying characters like Arcee, but it still has its merits.

    It's awful.

    Plain flat-out awful.

And by awful I mean it's an excellent series to watch. :)

I think it's a good show. some good action and the story isn't too bad. It def has it's flaws but nothing really perfect. I'd watch it and draw your own conlcusion. I don't think you'll be completely disappointed

I would absolutely recommend it under one condition. Realize that it's never totally serious. It puts on a show of being gritty and real, but its writers realize the ridiculousness of Transformers and roll with it, evident in characters like Ratchet, Knock Out, and even Megatron. It's funny but still comes through on plot and storyline, and while Season One is nearly as standalone as the G1 episodes were, Season 2 gets the ball rolling on bigger plots with even more character development.

Don't sty in the Prime forums, though. They're bilious and sanguine.

Listen to the wise LCDR Blindside. the prime forum is dangerous, but the show is good and don't let let anyone change your opinion before you watch it. You should atleast watch the rest of season one and if you like it start on season 2. If you want it to stay fresh to you don't spoil yourself in this forum

I find it to be middle of the road even for cartoons that are on the air right now. It's not as good as say Avatar the Legend of Korra but then it's better than some of the stuff I've seen from Cartoon Network. Among Transformers series it's not the best I've seen but it's far better than the worst I've seen.

Even middle of the road I'd say it's worth watching. If you have something like Netflix already they have season 1 as instant view so it's only a bit of your free time you are gambling with. Well worth that gamble.

Really liking the toys so far. I started off with the Cyberverse stuff since there was something really fun about easy to transform and such small figures. Recently I've started on the Deluxe sized figures and they have been pretty fun as well. They look a bit different than say the Generations figures or War for Cybertron figures, but not totally out of place beside them.

It's a mostly hit and miss show. You can still have fun watching it but it has several annoying flaws you may or may not notice.

Why not? Unless you don't have 22 minutes to spare at least once a week, you can make
time for the show. Be sure to watch in HD. The details on the robots are amazing. Story-wise, it's serious, pretty dark for a TF series, and of varying consistency on a show-to-show basis, at least since Season 2. Still, more good than bad, IMHO.

As for the figures, you'll be in a mixed bag situation. The First Edition figures have passed you by, so you either make do with Robots in Disguise, or go to e-Bay for overpriced Bulkheads.

That said, while RID is somewhat meh overall, there are some truly amazing standouts, like Vehicon. You'll really have to cherry-pick this bunch and avoid some of the more notorious shelf-warmers, like RID 'Bee.

For me, must haves in FE would be all except Arcee and Vehicon (their RID molds are far superior IMHO). If you want to stick to RID for consistency's sake, then prepare to do some modding, from sharpie/paint apps on Prime to actual knifework with the 'Bee mold.

It is well worth your time. It can get a big stagnant sometimes character wise, but still good fun. It seems to take influences from quite a few previous TF shows as well as the movies.

The only thing I don't personally like about it is some of the more movie based designs and the fact Bee can't speak. I felt the same was about Soundwave too, but him being silent does actually work.

As you had observed, other members have developed some HATE and APPRECIATION with the characters on Transformers Prime. It's best to have a quick check on their posting habits before completely trusting them. I've been very level-headed confronting with these people and I hope you do the same, too.

And for the record, you should definitely watch it. Enjoy the show and collect the toys! :)

Nobody can tell if you will like something better than yourself, so give it a try! The worst that can happen is minimal "eh i dont like this" feeling for one minute and it's over, but the best that can happen is you having another fictional piece to enjoy and collect.

Go ahead and give Prime a try! It's certainly a good show though not on the levels of Beast Wars and Animated at least not yet.

I should tell you that it does have it's share of flaws however though not to the point where it's glaring in my opinon. It's really up to you if you want to give it a try and see that if you like it. If you don't that's good if you do good for you as well.

There's also the Prime threads to consider. Yes it's being crazy lately with it's threads and fans but there's also a good amount of level headed fans who make smart posts. If you want listen to both sides first.

    Hope this helps mate. :)

    It's okay.

    If you do watch, expect:

    Pointless character death
    Boring relic hunts
    A lot on uninteresting characters
Annoying characters (Arcee, Airachnid, Bulkhead, ect)

Other than that, it's pretty okay. Dreadwing and Knockout are excellent characters, the anamation is amazing, and it's voice acting is great.

I like it, but it's not a must watch. I consider season two a mixed bag and several character deaths are pointless in my eyes.

    It's really, really "Meh".

The first season was alright, but the second has been so incredibly bland that the "suspense" scenes fall flat.

Well the majority of season 1 is excellent, but I'm getting sick of seeing the same Autobots in season 2. I highly recommend to keep on watching it until episode 10. Stop at episode 10 if you don't like Transformers Prime. However the final 4 episodes of season 1 are a must see.
