These guys are going to be far more agile than any other Transformers interpretation ever before. The fight scenes will quite simply blow your mind away. No greco-roman wrestling or just standing there firing blasters at each other - how boring would that have been?

I love Prime's head. It's recognisably him yet sleeker and really quite badass.

Actually Go-Bots aren't an immitator GalvaTRION.The Go-Bots cartoon and the Transformers cartoon were released in the same year and in the same month as each other in fact the Go-Bots cartoon premiered a few days after Transformers did.

And the Machine Robo toys which the Go-Bots toys were also released the same time as Takara's Diaclone line were.So Go-Bots is HARDLY an imitator as you put it :)

Also there's no reason to compare Transformers to Go-Bots.Particularly since Go-Bots was HARDLY meant to be long term.As the studio (Hanna Barbera) isn't really know for making long runing serials. The Flinstones is one of the exceptions

Holy crap. 244 posts since my initial post? :lol

I pmed the guy who had posted these pics on a totally unrelated forum but havent gotten a response.

The pics do look great in that he is recognizable as Prime (assuming they're real).

And to those wondering how this gonna work as a toy...remember how everyone was peeing in their pants wondering how the Beast Machines figures were gonna transform after the initial show transformation peek?

I think if MP SS was made at a larger scal more posability could be added, and also they have to keep to a budget. I wonder If all posability will be added to the toys from the LAM. That VW jazz translated well and is very convincing to me. I totally understand that boxy large armour will drastically restrain movement range but they could cheat like they do in Dreamwave comics, after all it's a movie it doesn't have to work in real life except for the toys, but their sacrafices are always made.

If their is a bit more armour closing up, I could grow to like the look, not love it but accept it.

Prime looks like he has a beak, in that pic. All this fuss and we don't even know it's legit.

    Pictures Confirmed By Paramount

John over at the themovieblog.com got these two pictures this morning as well as a concept sketch. Since he had an issue last time with the Bumblebee pic that leaked, he contacted Paramount to confirm the pics. He has already heard back, and while they can not confirm the concept sketch, Paramount has in fact confirmed the arm and head picture

It doesn't matter. I'm interested in the characters and the spirit of the story. Optimus Prime can "change clothes" and be the exact same character.
Again, you're talking about superficial aspects. Yes, it makes the connection more obvious because he looks like Christopher Reeve, but the task at hand wasn't "impersonate Christopher Reeve," it was "play the same Superman Reeve played." He could look a little different and still pull it off if he played the character closely enough.
No, I've read everything and found none of it compelling. You have a habit of saying "this is like Armada" and not explaining why, and when I don't see the similarity. That's not worth my time to respond to.
So how is it supposed to be any different coming from you than from the g1-only fanboys. Let them make their own case.
NO. Go back and show me where I said the models are based on G1. To me, that's strictly superficial and relatively unimportant. The roles and portrayals of the characters behind those models is what makes the movie based on G1. The Witwickys could be black and living in Ireland for all I care. The point is that they're a father and son unit and form a personal bond with the Autobots through Bumblebee. That happens in no other TransFormers story. Having a Prime, Bumblebee, Jazz, Ratchet, and Ironhide in one story that retain their key personal traits also does not happen in generic non-G1 TF stories. This is a very significant thing and resembles nothing other than G1. You have repeatedly dismissed this entirely, calling it "weak" without any reason to back yourself up, which is in stark contrast to your complaints about having your arguments ignored or dismissed. You can't have it both ways.
Go ahead, stuff some more words in my mouth. I bet there's still room for a few more. The movie could have nothing to do with G1 and be great. It's very obvious that it isn't G1, and I'm still looking forward to it very much. The basis for the primary characters is still G1, no matter that the story goes in a different direction and the characters look a bit different. Even the concept of the Autobots and Decepticons being dormant on Earth for a period of time before being discovered is a G1 story concept shared by no other version of TransFormers until now.

    Follow this with me:
    "Based on" /= "identical"
    "Based on" /= "looks like"

Let it happen? Looks to me like you facilitate it. Nobody was having any trouble before you nobly decided to intervene. One should only play Devil's Advocate when the Devil isn't there to defend himself.
As far as I can tell, "based on" and "inspired by" are used pretty much interchangeably in Hollywood. Don Murphy is a Hollywood producer. We had already seen the directions he'd gone in with his other adaptations, so it would be naive not to have known what his idea of "based on" would be. That some loose interpretations turn out badly has no bearing on the discussion at hand or the validity of my argument that one story based on another story can still diverge wildly from the source material.

To you. Now try backing your statement up objectively, or at least in a way that goes beyond "because I say so".
If you're going to grossly misinterpret everythign I say and then tell me I'm saying something that I'm not, then yes, you are most definitely putting words in my mouth.
I thought you hated people who played semantics because their arguments were otherwise too weak. If you're going to do something you hate, at least do it in a way that makes sense.
The whole argument here centers around the fact that he said that. I'm defending exactly that statement. How could I possibly be ignoring it. You're not even making sense anymore.
You are confusing me for someone else. I have not said such a thing. I am arguing that the movie, as far as I can tell, takes G1 as its primary source material--it's basis--just as it was always intended to be.
I refuse to take your bait, sir.
Do better than what? You aren't even clear on what I have and haven't said.
That's entirely up to you. If you're going to keep coming back and misrepresenting what I've said, and now apparently making personal attacks, I'm going to keep defending myself and demonstrating how what you've said about my arguments is inaccurate and without basis. You seem to be fond of Straw Man attacks, but those only work if your real opponent is not present to defend himself and present his actual arguments instead of the falsified ones.

I said it on Allspark ( couldn't access this site for some reason ) and I'll say it here. For bots with no size shifting, there is no way an arm that big could come out of a truck. Just look at the mirror in the lower right hand side. I drive a truck, plus we've seen pics of the actual truck. Based on the size of that mirror, it would take nearly the whole truck to make just that arm. What about the rest of his body?

I call fakes on these pics.

Sorry, already been confirmed by reliable source on the previous page that these are real.

Now, as to the arguments about dirt etc getting into the joints.....

This is a metal from another planet. Really, is it that far a stretch of an imagination that if dirt got inbetween too moving parts that it wouldn't simply be pulverized with no effect to the metal? Remember, these are war machines that take brutal punishment like nothing on earth. Dirt grinding the parts is hardly a concern.

Now about joint being exposed to an enemy....
Our joints are almost as exposed. Poke the inside of your elbow. Or the space around the edge of your kneecap. We have skin and very thin layers of tissue covering that. A hard object smashing into those spots will pretty much wreck them. A strong enough punch to your sholder can dislocate it. Ask some skateboarders how vulnerable their knees or ankles are.
Or perhaps our NECKS. On the front sides of your neck are to thicks things (can't remember the name). They have no protection.

At least on these robots their exposed parts are still incredibly strong. An animal's semi-exposed parts are far weaker than our bones and about as durable as skin.

Think about a tank. Yes, it is heavily armoured. But the tracks and wheels they run on, out of neccessity aren't. They can't be. So what do the engineers do? Design them to be able to take the heavy abuse that they are forced to with no ill effects.

    That's my $.02

OH YEAH....I think this looks fantastic.

Agreed. Otherwise there's no reason to release partial images or black out parts of Prime's face.

These pics are nice! As for people discussing joints, and scale, and transforming, and the like, this was discussed in pre-production by artists, Speilberg, Bay and pre-visual guys about 6 months ago...they know what they are doing...they have always stated that they are going for realism....They are WAY ahead of the fans...

We play catch up, while sometimes becoming arrogant and adamant...for little reason...

I wish every post in this thread was....( 'i like this' )

Ah, I check back and somewhere I missed this, but okay. So the speculation over real vs fake is pretty much moot. Now it's just a Loveit/Hateit thing. Frankly, as I said before, it looks interesting. The one thing I'm not going to get frothed up about is whether or not this will or won't work on the big screen. It's just a render, it's probably not finished, and there is no scale yet. Seeing it on the big screen is really the ONLY way to truly judge it with any finality.

So I have to say, this is enough to pique my interest. As long as ALL the bots aren't face-plated, and each character is recognizable, I'll be happy. Lastly, the only thing left in my book is to make this an impressive, and great story. In Bay's interview (the one that had extended footage recently) he talks about the next few movies. He's thinking sequels already, which means a grand scale storyline. I'm rather excited to hear that, because this movie isn't going to be a one-off. It sounds like there's a a lot here that's going to setup the larger story-arc. If Bay is this excited about the overall story, that could be a very good sign for us indeed.

And if you're not happy with it, well, at least we'll have our 20th Anniversary DVDs this fall. :)

Since FP put up his picture with notes to show how the arm's armor will probably interlock more, I am more satisfied with the design.

The problem with the 'alien metal' argument is that it is the easy way out...it is also easy to argue for 'alien mass shifting', and if even the robots' more vulnerable parts are made of unobtainium, couldn't they just be made from shape-shifting metal like the robot in Terminator 2?

The Transformers are going to fail a logical analysis no matter what. The important thing is that they look good - and to my eyes, battle robots with gappy armor just don't. They may look good to other people, which is fine. I am just going to be a little disappointed if the Autobot leader looks like a sewing machine with the cover off.

(That is, unless he turns into a sewing machine. This would be enjoyable. Stitchformers! More than makes a shirt!

And Megatron would become a pair of double-knit, reversible slacks.)
