WOW! Amazing! Are you going to make a ladder, too?

Edit: Just read the first post. Nice!

    See from this pic.

it looks like you have designed the hip joints to hang lower to clear the crotch armor, much like the hips on MP rodimus when in prime mode.

What I am saying is that you could actually make the sides of the crotch armor into parts the fit between the hip joint and main crotch assembly. My only comparison would have to be how bandai used to do the old gundam shoulder pads. Basically you turn the side skirts into a part that slides over the hip joint before attaching it to the central crotch part. The side skirt armor would move with the leg without hindering articulation.

This way you could better center where the hips are relative to the crotch and help shorten the figure a little bit.

Oh, I get what you mean. Makes total sense, though it also means more parts.

The other solution would be just to get rid of the frontal crotch plate entirely and follow the model used by a lot of Transformers, where the hip armour IS the hips. Like Generations Jazz, I guess.

In any case, this IS an amazing piece of work.

I see a lot of possibilties for modding other customs based on your design for hips/thighs.

Dude, this is seriously awesome! (How have I only just seen this?)

Put me down for 3 sets! Inferno, Graple and the upcoming Hotspot.

I liked the hose detailing on his thighs, but I might want these new upgrades... Particularly if it'd make a more realistic alt mode...

Thanks for the continued feedack fellas.
I'm getting a couple parts tomorrow that will give you a better idea how this looks so far.
reluttr, I'll definitely look over your suggestion and compare and contrast to my design. I've had to nix some ideas so stuff would fit without physically modifying anything except by removing screws.
    thanks guys.

I can't believe how you can make a set I'd never even considered let alone wanted, yet make me want it so bad! The proportions just rock!

Mp scale you say???? I'm all eyeballs.

...and yes, it's a stroke of genius to turn a toy into a collectors dream piece.

WJ- Astonishing as always! It looks great. I'd like to see how it works in firetruck mode. I'd be open to just getting a set of those hands, cast or from Shapeways. Either way, you should make the whole shebang available on SW. It doesn't cost you anything, and there are folks who will shell out for it.

Great idea! Interested to see how the elongated fire truck looks. I'd love to have a more G1 cab for it too, since I've never been very keen on this guy's alt mode, but all the same it's still an awesome bot mode upgrade :thumb

I have to say, his alt mode has been growing on me since I noticed that all the firetrucks in my neighborhood look almost identical. But I'm pretty keen to see how he looks extended into a ladder truck.

Oh I know, there's nothing wrong with the alt mode, at all. It's very good. It's that Classics updated alt mode thing though, whereas I personally prefer the original for nostalgia etc. So now I'm wondering if there are any kits or models of the real life G1 fire truck, for a possible reshell? This is something I would never have even thought about if Wheeljack hadn't made the bot mode so wonderful!! :lol

Are you using a 3d printer? It looks like Shapeways in the pics because of the texture, just curious. Can't wait to own this :)

I'm not even sure how realistic G1 Inferno's truck mode is. The front end looks real enough, but all that arm kibble always looked suspicious to me. And of course, that truck looks pretty oldschool by today's standards. I don't mind the update, though I certainly understand the G1 nostalgia factor. I guess I feel it stronger with the cars than with Grapple/Inferno.

That's kinda what I like, the oldschool vibe! Y'know, when TFs were old Beetles and classic 70s sports cars etc ha ha. Guess I just assumed the Inferno/Grapple truck had a real life basis because all those Diaclone molds of the time did, but I don't think I've ever seen real life pics of one... Hmmm. Google search may be in order!
EDIT G1 Inferno is commonly listed as a Mitsubishi Fuso fire truck. This isn't as specific as it sounds because there are loads of different Fuso models down the years. Closest I can see on a quick image search is this one, which has the wrong number of wheels and a different type of ladder, but it seems the Fuso had many variations (like 'Ford Transit' for example) so there may have been others that are a better match.
