Hopefully this is the right place to post this. Has anyone painted a Kreon head? I want paint the Kreon Optimus Prime head, and it's that rubbery plastic so I'm afraid I'll paint it and it won't dry properly. Does anyone have any advice on what paint to try on this?
Sharpie ink rubs off far too easily. If you want something in a spray can, vinyl/fabric paints work fine on those soft plastics. I picked up some Dupli-Color at an automotive shop that does the job nicely. You'll want to avoid enamels, including Krylon paints. They'll immediately dry to the touch, but after time they leech the rubberizing agent out of the plastic, causing the paint to become tacky again. I hear acrylic paints dry fine on soft plastic, just don't use them on anything too bendy, as acrylics are sometimes too brittle to flex with the underlying parts.
On anything flexible I use Citadel Paint. They are an Acrylic paint but it dries as a flexible rubber, as evidenced by this chunk peeled out of the cap of an old bottle. It is strong and can be flexed and deformed quite a bit without damage. I've also used it in clothing and costuming. The only thing I have lying around is my unfinished Shadowrun Halloweeners leather jacket, but it is quite durable. I have tried scratching it intentionally but the only time I have done damage to the paint it was while it was still wet. I hope this helps and I look forward to seeing your project!
if you use sharpies u can seal it with nail polish. its trickk but can seal an give a great gloss look
Thanks! I wound up using a duplicolor spray that works on vinyls. I tried Tamiya arcylic and it started cracking - but this duplicolor spray seems great. I'll be posting the custom shortly, it's almost done!
glad you found the right paint for the job i used the citidel paints on my kreo prime head and they worked fine
