Okay, I managed to snag a Universe Ratchet off eBay a few weeks ago at a price that wasn't ridiculous, and gave him the old custom-treatment.

    Before painting:

Some of Ratchet's parts were given a base coat of Krylon Fusion Beige, and then on those parts a followup coat of Krylon Fusion White or Tamiya Silver. Final colors used were Testors Dragon White, Testors Turn-Signal Amber, Citadel Mithril Silver, Citadel Boltgun Metal, and a mix of Testors International Orange and Guard's Red which I simply called "Ratchet Red", a color I will also be using on Prime RiD Ratchet later on.

The laser-scalpel and tail-lights got the Tamiya clear-Orange spray-treatment, followed up by Testors clear-Red.

Also, I swapped out the blue lightbar for the red one I took off Classics Prowl when I replaced his with one from Movie Barricade.

Anyway, I think he looks much better. Comments are welcome :)

Hang in there. I had almost given up on finding one at a decent price, but I was eventually victorious! :D

    And thanks!

I'm still trying to figure out why anyone thought it was a good idea to put black on Ratchet.

You took care of that and the crappy gun (lack of) coloration. Cheers!

Ugly shoulder screws, recommend styrene over them. Other than that, pretty cool. :)

*edit* Also, maybe blue paint over front/back window, always thought the combination of clear and painted windows was weird.

Looks sooo much better. I like the Universe deco, but those black limbs and random red on the roof of his alt mode annoy me. Starting to consider doing similar paint apps to mine...if I screw up I can just get the Henkei.

Also liked how you painted his eyes (at least I think you did). I wish they did that more often rather than using light piping.

BIG improvement. I like that the repainting is subtle... at first glance this could be a really nice factory job, but then you notice the extra touches that have gone into it.

I'm wondering why you didn't paint his helmet crest silver like it is in the comics and cartoon. The red crest felt wrong to me from the beginning...

Also, he's an idea (haven't gotten around to it with my own Ratchet yet)... what about stripping the paint off those back windows? The pale blue looks sort of lame, and not really like credible windows at all. Also, ambulances don't usually have glass windows in back anyway. If the were stripped to a solid white, it might give the alt-mode more of a solid look.

Nice! Got any pictures of Prowl with the Barricade lightbar? :D

Yeah, I'm still pondering what to do about the shoulders. As for the windows, I darkened the ones on Ironhide and I may do the same here.

Thanks! I actually put some Tamiya clear-Blue over his eyes to darken them.

Thanks! I opted to leave the crest a shade of red to hearken to TF Prime Ratchet. Although it would indeed look good in silver.

The notion of removing the light blue paint entirely isn't a bad one, and I'll consider it.

I'll be sure to take some pics of Prowl tomorrow :)

By the way, is it possible to paint/modify the panel behind his chest without completely removing it?

Not really, no. But its fairly easy to remove by taking apart the rear-section.

Yeah, I need to order some appropriate-sized ball-joints so I can add them to both Universe Ratchet and Ironhide.

Thanks for the tip. I just painted the chest section yesterday. Looks better than the black.
