Would you believe me if I said it was the end of all things as we know it? Or would you prefer to settle for casual discussions coming out of left field, so to speak?

Here's the problem with Transformers: Prime.

You have two movie-writers who fell so in love with their work from the first movie in the trilogy (being the only one they both wrote together, RoTF had a third writer brought on) that they've basically ignored "Revenge of the Fallen" and "Dark of the Moon" and decided to "continue" the story from Movie 1.

    Look at it this way.

    How Movie 1 Ended:
    - Autobots on Earth, making a call out to other Autobots
    - Starscream apparently leader of the Decepticons as Megatron's lifeless body is thrown in the ocean
    - Transformers and government begin to interact secretly

    How Transformers Prime Begins
    - Starscream is the leader of the Decepticons
    - Megatron returns from a journey not really explained except for "RAWR DARK ENERGON"
    - Autobots already on Earth
    - Autobots already interacting with government in secret

Now let's compare characters from Movie 1 (Autobots) to Prime (Autobots).

    Movie Prime = TFP Prime
Movie Bumblebee = TFP Bumblebee (with the beeping included)
Movie Ironhide = TFP Bulkhead (some badass tough guy)
    Movie Ratchet = TFP Ratchet
Movie Jazz = TFP Arcee (same vocal/outspoken attitude, same "skills")

The three humans are Hasbro mandates so the show can "relate" to kids, so you include the angsty teen Jack, the cliche pop culture chick in Miko, and the little kid who obviously befriends real little kid's favorite character Bumblebee in Raf.

Cliffjumper was thrown in the "movie" premiere being voiced by Dwayne Johnson (The Rock) to get fans excited (you know, OMG, a movie star voicing a Transformer!) just like Unicron was brought in at the Season 1 finale to keep the interest for G1 and older fans who really felt disinterested in the show as it continued (myself included).

The show absolutely reeks of trying to take too much Sci-Fi and shove it in a toy franchise while also re-creating Transformers lore while keeping Hasbro happy with new toys and playing proper homage to old fan favorite characters.

I haven't watched since the finale of Season 1 and I really don't have a desire to. There is no underlying story, there is no character interaction or growth (Arcee fighting Airachnid is not character growth because they've failed to get me to care about Arcee in the first place), all it is, is watching a little bit of Fringe shoved in with Movie 1-based characters with CGI so it looks and feels like a low-budget attempt at the first movie being a TV series.

That's it. Yes it is my opinion but I have convinced myself that I'm right. So neener.

I just watched Armada... and Prime managed to royaly disappoint again. It's like the writers have a compulsion to END every possible development point at the end of an episode, instead of running with it... As well as totally ruining great ideas.
    - Starscream gets clones (out of the wazoo, I might add), which could have been a great way to introduce Skywarp whom we know is getting a toy... instead, they all die by the end of the episode. Not to mention how stupid it was of him in the first place to think 5 clones of him could deal with Megatron.
    - The Insecticons who even gave Megatron a run for his money when there were only 1 per episode? They are now cannon fodder, killed by flying into trees, for Primus's sake, or shot down with one blast.
    - Heaven forbid Airachnid remain out there as a third faction, she had to be removed in quite possibly the stupidest way - getting trapped in an Insecticon cocoon. Seriously, when Arcee was stalking her, did it not occur to her to awaken those hunderds of remaining Insecticons and have Arcee ripped to shreds?
    - And Bulkhead escapes, of course.

Status quo restored, once again. Seriously, Prime is not a bad show... but it could be so much better. All these missed opportunities... keep it back. So far, I rate it as good as the first season of BW, and that show only started shining after season 2.

So was War Planets - Shadow Raiders, yet look at that show... :)

Kickback - For me, it's the parallels with Animated that bother me. Animated had Prime, Bulkhead, Bumblebee, Ratchet and Prowl. Prime has the first 4 and replaced Prowl with Arcee... also a motorcycle. Worse yet, Prime Ratchet is the same stereotypcial grumpy (old) mech, and Bulkhead is huge and somewhat clumsy. It's too close for comfort... it feels like a rip-off. Today's episode especially felt so, with Starscream creating his clones in almost the exact same manner as in Animated.
If Prime came up with this character roster right after Cybertron, or RID, no-one would have noticed or minded, but coming up with almost the same main 5 Bots as Animated, right after it ended...

That made me cry inside considering I treat Arcee's relationship with 'Bee in Challenger's fan fics as canon.

At least 'Bee had the nerve to enter the mind of the monster that tore his voice from his very throat and left him to rot.

I hated how Arcee never even asked "Are you sure about this?" She just went "lolkay."

Which is pumped up and helped by Aaron Archer and Hasbro worshipping them for "changing everything" and bringing in the dough.

I'm sure that at the time Arcee wasn't aware that she was being a little insentisitve to Bee. She had good intentions of him to not let him dwell on his grif but she tried to help him out of it the wrong way. I'm sure Tunnel vison will show more of what there relationship's really like in the show. But I doubt she's like that to Bee at all.

As for the episode Sick Mind she was probably suprised that Bee wanted to do it and see how he would handeld it. If he couldn't she'll talk him out of it.

SPLIT LIP, I couldn't agree more. Everything is so forced now, it just ruins the show for me.

Kaiju, just reading the first 10 pages I would highly recommend quitting the white knight because you just made things a lot worse for yourself.

This convoluted description just goes to show how without focus this show is.

To clarify, are you saying it also lacks structure? Or just focus?

Yeah, never thought I'd be saying this but the movies handle characters better than Prime. Sure, we don't really see them enough but they at least gave me the idea that these aliens had thoughts and feeling and weren't just dramatic death machines. I laughed at the Autobots trying to hide in Sam's backyard, I understood Optimus's rage as he took on the 'cons in the forest, and I felt the pure terror as Sam was told the Autobots had no plan.

I have never felt this with Prime. It's always "I'm super serious grr I'll take you all on" or "we have a problem oh well let's shoot someone." There's no emotion! Say what you will about the movies but I think they got at least one thing right, and that's emotion. Wheeljack was introduced in the third film but when you hear the sadness in his voice as he says his last goodbye to Bee, you can tell they became friends at some point and had some history. Ironhide screaming to everyone that Starscream is coming showed that he was actually a threat for once.

Everything in Prime is just so dull. Cliffjumper dying didn't really matter because we didn't know him, Arcee's PTSD is resolved in a few hours, and even Miko coming close to losing Bulkhead just felt weak. I can't watch this show anymore. The characters are all there, the designs are amazing, and the voice acting is stellar but they don't do anything with them! Not to mention using Unicron, the Matrix, and Nemesis Prime in the first 30 episodes. This show pisses me off because of how good it should be but isn't.
