ok so this one has been circiling around in my head for awhile now so i guess i'll post it. what was your reaction to the transformers when you first found out about them whether you were and adult or kid seeing them for the first time back in the 80's or any of the other series we've had even the movies. what did you think about them?
I can't think of a moment in my life where I wasn't aware of transformers. They're something I've grown up with as far back as I can remember.
In a nutshell: they instantly made me stop caring about ALL other toys & franchises that I was previously interested in up until that point back in 1984. Star Wars, He-Man, Hot Wheels... all of it immediately forgotten about once Transformers showed up.
IDK, don't remember. I had transforming toys when I was really young. I remember having a blue formula 1 transforming toy.
I just remember playing with the toys when I was a kid. I don't think I was actually aware of what they were until about the age of eight or nine. Like a lot of young boys, I had a thing for cars and robots. So a toy where the two were in one was like white gold.
I was a fan way back in.... 2005. Don't remember much but I believe I thought the toys were 10 feet tall and £100.
Watched the original movie maybe a year or two before the first Bay film came out, thought "hmm characters are cool, graphics are terribleeeeee" Watched Blackout fook some stuff up in TFTM: i was hooked, line and sinker.
I was completely blown away when I found out that a live action movie was being made of my favorite childhood cartoon. I remember watching the same trailer over and over of Blackout transforming and attacking the Soccent base. The day that I actually saw the first film in the theater, my life changed forever. I became a fan all over again. I remember driving the forty miles back home that day from seeing the movie just speechless.
Funny thing is, I did not immediately gravitate to TFs when I first heard about them. I had been exposed to transforming robots before TFs came on the scene (via Super Sentai, Brave and Macross, to name a few) and I thought TFs were just more of the same. It was only once I bought my first TF toy, realized from reading its tech specs that this was something unique (the robots were actually sentient, for one - highly compelling characters inhabiting a rich fictional universe), and subsequently explored the Marvel G1 comics that I got hooked.
I honestly can't remember if I found the comic books first or the cartoon first. I was really into comic books and I was into cartoons as hard as any kid back in the 80's. I remember being really impressed by both the comic books and the cartoon, but I was a little let down the toys didn't look like the characters on the cartoon. And yes I even liked Bumblebee back then because me and my brothers would take his rubber tires off and put them back on like he had a flat tire.
Like every other 8 year old in 1984, Transformers was the end all be all of our universe. Its been all been a blur since.
I first got introduced to it back in 2003, but I didn't really follow it like I do now. Then I saw Revenge of The Fallen and I got really into the franchise. I just loved the realistic designs of the characters in the Movieverse. It still remains today as my favorite fiction/toyline/overall universe.
