Just wanted to know how all of you feel when trashing a completely new figure for a kit bash? Do you ever feel guilty that youve taken apart a completely fine figure for the sake of another. Especially when that figure you just tore into was a little expensive.
Do you have a budget on how much you want to spend on your custom, for example paints, kits, extra figures etc?

My dilema is that I want to rip off the arms and head from a TFTM LC Megs for my ROTF LC Megs but cant find the heart to do it! Actually I tried once but couldnt and just ended up repainting and rewroking the TFTM Megs instead.
Ive found another TFTM Megs but he is a little expensive for customizing IMO. (TFTM LC Megs is hard to come by where I am) But I still want to do this mod!

    What do you think?

    Thanks for reading!

If I've bought the figure specifically for a kitbash project, I don't feel as if I'm trashing it to begin with. In fact, I'd say the converse idea is true, that if I've made a purchase specifically to custom it will remain trashed until I do so.

To date, I do not feel guilty for any such project that I've made. Many of my projects have a base cost of $20-50, since the main line I've worked with is Alts/BTs.

I do not have a budget specifically for making customs, neither during a time where I made more projects than I do now or currently. Often times, though, I'll look out for sales, deals, etc. I once bought a ton of Testors multipacks of paint at Walmart for $9 on clearance, and I still am using those paints today (and have went through quite a bit of them).

Do it. It's always a bit painful, but in the end, you don't want to short change the finished custom by hesitating.

do it! I'm open to many points of view but I personally think 'collecting' anything is dumb, not using something is a waste!

I tried making a DOTM leader class megatron and never finished it, just attached one of leader optimus legs to rotf megs and completely took apart optimus (broke him apart in a few frustrating places) and planned on using him for parts..

still lying in a basket in my room :/

I feel your pain...tearing up a perfectly good figure for the express purpose of splicing its joints into a project and pitching the rest in a parts bin isn't easy to get over. I have the same problem, probably due to my insane inexplicable inclination to assign value and have pity on inanimate objects (as well as alliterating the above).

This is why I buy stuff on clearance or find junkers on eBay...it's psychologically easier for me to demolish it if it's cheap or was someone else's crap to start with.

But that's just part of it. You can't make an omelet without breaking some eggs.

Thank you all for your advice! I'm sure I will eventually do it but I'm just trying to figure out the costs, like I said LC Megs isn't easy to come buy here and a little pricey too! But when I do buy another TFTM Megs then I will surely use everything eventually. The remaining carcass will be a base for a LC Shockwave I suppose.

Well I'll go hunting for Megs tonight! Thanks again for all the help.
Be sure to look out for a Megs custom on Radicons soon!
