1-dimensional villains are a little played out, don't you think? I've seen plenty of the mustache twirling, black cloak wearing villains who wake up each morning and say, "Today is a wonderful day to do some Eeeevil, hahahahah!" G1 Megs motto was "Peace through tyranny!" He wanted a unified Cybertron, but his means of achieving it became warped and twisted into something bad! No reason Megs couldn't wake up and realize what he's done.
That's what was originally planned, him somewhat seeing his faults. damn whoever changed the ending to more mindless violence. In the novel Megatron delivers this little speech. "I am tired of fighting. I have spent far too long destroying, and it has brought me nothing. Nothing. So I wish to try creating for a time and see if that brings me...something."
Adorable isnt the word I'd use. The art work is really high quality and is probably a sad irony since movie-verse Megatron was supposed to be the protector of Cybertron. It is kind of telling that the artist uses children. Adults would be too fear-struck to approach but children let their sense of wonder override their judgement occasionally (see Ironhide and the girl in TF07) and would feel safe with the giant robot no matter how fearsome he looked.
