I believe it's copyright infringement upon whichever company originally put it out, as well as the company the was licensed to do the videos/DVDs.

So if you sold it at BotCon they could ask you to remove it from the sales floor/dealer room. Online, they probably could send you a C&D letter.

Frankly, I'm amazed at how many conventions allowed blatantly ripped/pirated videos to be sold.

At Mid-Ohio Con, there are dozens of booths selling bootleg videos.
The only time I've ever bought any is when I know for a fact that a show has not been released in the US. Misfits of Science is a good example. I have asked NBC/Universal several times over the years about a possible DVD set, and everytime they respond that they have no plans for release. So, in that case, bootleg copies would be my only way. Do I like it? No, I've been ripped a few times. However, when a show is given an official release, I always buy the official one.

Enh, since I didn't register this year 'cuz the toys didn't interest me, I can still make a last minute decision.

Kinda glad I chose that. Then again, if they allow the official artists to do commissions...

I don't know how many attendees will cancel. For me, I have already paid for airfare for my wife and I, pre paid for our hotel in full (because I got a much better deal) and have our packages + custom class (for both of us) so canceling altogether was just not really an option. We MAY spend a lot more time sightseeing in Dallas than at the convention...but we'll see...

Dang...I'm jealous, I really wanted a custom class

But yeah I've already pre-paid and everything so cancelling for me isn't an option for me

Well as a fan artist, I understand Hasbro has to protect their IP and am surprised they ever let any of us sell our unofficial art at previous Botcons.

But, this pretty much seals the deal that I won't be setting up at any future Botcons. I guess I am TFcon exclusive!

Would Megagun and Brownking count as parody? Read their BIOS.

If you're going by the Bios, most of this year's HOF inductees count as parody (Arcee, anyone?).

Hasbro has not stolen anything from The Lego Group. IP infringement, even if that were the case, is not theft. Playpatterns, designs styles, building techniques and concepts cannot be stolen.

More likely because character likenesses contained therein would fall within Hasbro's copyright. The name "Transformers," certain character names, and the Autobot/Decepticon sigils are examples of trademarks owned by Hasbro.

More specifically, the last Lego patent expired over twenty years ago. (1988)

Moreover, that's what a jury found. Those who decry the judgement in Liebeck seem to think it was the result of shenanigans between shady lawyers or a decree from an activist judge, and either forget or were not aware that actual citizens decided the case.

While the current wave of negative feelings towards Botcon can't hurt guys like TFCon, Savcon, Slag-A-Con, Dairycon, C.O.N.S, B.O.T.S, Cybcon, Roll Out Roll Call, ourselves here at Auto Assembly and every other fan run event I will be honest and say that I am genuinely concerned that the issues that have overshadowed the convention this year may tarnish conventions generally and give all of us a bad reputation.

I've already had people contact me, concerned about safety of their personal details, what products will be on sale, and whether they will be able to get sketches from our artists and I am sure that the other convention organisers are getting the same daily. Hopefully people will realise that we are not all the same and while all the fan run conventions are only run on a small scale basis in our spare time, we do try as hard as we can to give fans the type of convention that you all want.

OK everyone got a good contest here to make some people some extra cash..

We pitch in 5$ person and we each pic a date of when Hasbro will tell all the fan boards like TFW , Seibertron ect that they are no longer allowed to promote or show anything to do 3rd party items or the site will be sued or action taken to shut them down for showing and promoting them.. The person that picks the correct date wins the money collected lol

You know it is only a matter of time before they do that.

    that's actually a great point...

yeah, and without those logo's, i guess they're probably doing the same thing Hasbro does when maybe a Corvette looking car, or a modified Porsche design...

thanks, i actually didn't know that. i now feel bad. guess i should've read the details before being a smartass, but hey, that's what the internet is for right?

I agree with this because MP are in no way marketed towards little kids and the parents buying them. Be it hasbro or takara releases.
