I have some questions for those who have purchased the home media of TFP season 1. I want to obtain the set, but none of the stores I've visited so far has the blu-ray version, they all have only the DVDs. I know a few internet sources to acquire the blu-ray version, but I'm not sure if it's worth going through the trouble. That maybe I should just buy a DVD set from the stores with half the price. Are the qualities, both visual and audio of the blu-ray much better than that of DVDs? Do they have some bonus features the DVDs don't? And do they have subtitles?
I don't know about extra features on the Bluray, but if you have a Bluray player, you should definitely get the Bluray version. DVD as a format has been completely outstripped and left behind by technology, and is quite outdated now. Its maximum resolution is 720 x 480, while Bluray and streaming sites such as youtube go up to 1920 x 1080. That's right, youtube destroys DVD in terms of quality. That's how outdated DVD is. DVD's fine if the source material wasn't very good, but Prime looks magnificent in HD. If you can't find it in stores, try Amazon. (Amazon.com: Transformers: Prime - Season One (Limited Edition) [Blu-ray]: Peter Cullen, Frank Welker, David Hartman: Movies & TV) I imported it and it was worth every cent.
As far as I've seen other than picture quality they're exactly the same. As in, there are no bonus features on the Blue ray that aren't on the DVD. I own a Blue ray player, but I bought it on DVD. I honestly didn't think it was $20 worth of 'looks better' personal. If it -had- come with extra features exclusive to the Blue ray release I would have gotten it, but I just couldn't justify it being DOUBLE the cost. And I could go into my local store, pick it up an take it home an watch it that night... rather than having to order it an wait a week for it to come in.
Wow I cannot stress enough the picture quality of the Blu-ray. I have only watched two epiosdes but it is like seeing them for the first time again due to the quality. I would have never know they took the time to make reflections in Prime's windshield while in bot mode.
There are no extra features on the Blu-ray that aren't on the DVD. It's just higher quality, you could really save a couple of bucks with the DVD. You don't have to take my word for it, but as long as you enjoy what you get.
In my opinion I would go with Blu-Ray in my eye's I see a lot of difference compared to Blu-Ray and DVD especially CGI/Animate/Cartoon like Blu-ray in visual and sound, you can always stock up on your Blu-ray collection and TF-Prime (Blu-Ray V) would make a great addition to your Blu-ray Library, And no there is no subtitles.
