I would like to amend my answer a little. Of course I'd like to see a new G1 animated movie. As I would like to see films for Armada, Beast Wars, Animated, and even an animated film based on the Bay films. But, none of that is going to happen. So there is little point in talking about it.
I would actually like make the movie or call Hasbro about it. Yes great animation like tftm or call of the primitives but better. Omnius, not every person or every business that does animation, does it solely for great profits. Do you think they made TFTM for super popularity sake (most of America could care less about that movie back then) or expected great sales (they admitted it wouldn't have great sales in interviews). They did it sell toys yes, but when did Sunbow make great profits on "Call of the Primitives" ? Most of the money for the movie now, like then, would goto the voice actors and animators and promotion. TFTM cost $6 million at the most (had great voice actors), why not make a sequel and show at some world theaters and dvd and ratinsg on Hub, it COULD make that much back. Do you think the latest dc animation movie really made great profits or any profits at all ? So Hasbro has no problem making 500 versions of bumblebee toys at millions of dollars but would care about spending less on a movie that answers questions for old and new fans ? It would go in hand with regeneration stuff yes ? Hub just aired tftm, it wasn't for popularity sake or profits that is for sure.
They don't now, but they could... Like I said, they did it for GI Joe once (Resolute) so why not more? Someone's making money off these straight to home video movies or they wouldn't get made - and don't tell me TFs aren't as popular as Thor, Hulk, Wonder Woman, Avengers, Hellboy, etc. They might not QUITE have the universal name recognition as Superman or Batman, but they're closer than the rest of the properties I've mentioned. Oh hell YES. That'd be great to see.
I was disappointed that Rebirth ended animated G1 here in the US. It had the potential for a lot more then it did and didn't feel IMO like an ending. But that was the thing in the 80s. The endings of shows back then all left the possibility of them to keep going so that it could be revisited.
It's too late for a TF:TM 2. Many of the voices are gone and who would animate it? Who does 2D theatrical animation of that caliber anymore? No one. The time has passed, and they wouldn't revisit a continuity that old anyway. Even if they did, they'd change everything to such a degree that it would be maddening to longtime fans. No thanks.
Such a bunch of negative nancies in here. Anyone who says something can't be done is almost always wrong - who said that again?
Somebody who never waited 26 years for something. Here's another quote for you: "You can't go home again." And I know who said mine: Thomas Wolfe.
dude, g1 has been over for 25-ish years now, you are NEVER going to see anything new from g1 that isn't in comic form,
who said that about full combiners? We had Superion, Devastator and Bruticus in Energon which have all been re-released a few times now, and the Legends Constructicons in ROTF as well at the very least
Tron Legacy. 25 years between movies. Case closed. The characters are still being used in tf for past decade "homage" g1. Simply continue g1 universe instead of "multiverse" versions of exact characters. There are plenty of 2d animators left and many 2d animated films were released in the last decade. This isn't meant to be "popular" or anything, just a bonus for hardcore fans. What is the big deal? Why does it need "breakthrough animation" not it doesn't need that either. "Dude g1 ended 25 years ago" yeah so did Tron 1 and Bladerunner 1 they got a sequel for Tron, Bladerunner getting theirs remember 14 years apart from T2 and T3. This thread is not about popularity or mega cash. Look at the people who turned on Hub to see tftm, many old people and even those who never saw it before still watched it. They can do that or a dvd release for sequel. So far in this poll near half would watch it. There you go.
Actually it's about a third of people here who said they would, not a half The point is that Hasbro probably wont make a sequel to this film (or the 80's cartoon at all) It's finished with, get over it. They may decide to do something for the anniversary like a comic or something, but that would be all. Toys and comics are one thing, but financing an animated movie would be too costly for a small demographic of their audience
Well I don't need to "get over it" as I am not emotionally attached to idea but I'm speaking my mind like others are here. I see no harm in doing it that is all. I said near half, ok I was wrong - 35%. Still though, that is not bad, over one third of fans would watch it from this poll, not bad. I bet many saying "no" would watch it anyway. My last post was to all the "it's been 25 years" talk, just wanted to piont out tron and others. "Nobody makes 2 animation no more" oh yeah : Winter 2012 Season New Anime Preview List Plus new batman one, plus more.
This is about a full animation film. It will need super quality animation to have at least some sort of commercial viability. Looks do matter. It's as simple as that. Cell animation ( and seamlessly integrating 3D perspective without being obvious Cgi ) has made quite some progress throughout the years. So, if they do make a full feature film, they can't afford to do any less than the latest and best cell animation ( hope the humans don't look like anime rejects though), coupled with the best voice acting. That's how you sell product.
Anyway, the point is that Hasbro would not be likely to finance an animated feature for a series that ended about 25 years ago, when they don't have to (they have a few good lines running concurrently right now). Things like Tron or Terminator were basically forgotten about (franchise wise) up until they had a new film come out, Transformers isn't in that boat yet oh and your original question was "who wants a TF:TM 2?" not "who would watch it". There's a big difference there.
How many times do I have to type this movie is not about popularity or mega profits ? I stated a drawn movie. Some suggested cg. Whatever I would prefer same style as original but a little better. That is right, who wants a sequel to watch. A movie is meant to be watched. Who would want a tftm 2? But maybe I should make a new thread asking who would watch a sequel then. Or maybe make another thread asking who will get out of bed, to watch it on Hub. Or, who would actually lift their arm, to insert the dvd in, so they can watch it.
Yeah, i would like to see sequel. But so much time has passed, so many things have changed. Now there is no point for making second movie. But Hasbro could do animated movies from comics like Marvel or DC does. AHM will be great for DVD direct.
