I think you'll be getting a full refund as well as the store credit. Best to phone up and see.

As soon as business hours open, I'm calling Game here in my home town and asking for verification on this because it sounds like a fucking farce.

Have you heard, if you've paid for your pre-order in full you wont be getting cash back only in store credit.

    Seriously.

Not only is the credit massively unfair, it's also a real pain in the backside 'cause who knows how long the store will be around to spend said store credit in. :(

Anyone know legal rights issues affecting this - are affected folks (not me, thank the gods - I won't be playing it) able to demand full cash refund, considering it's Game's fault? I'd have thought so, but I thought I'd ask. Either way, I've found kicking up a stink in a busy store is a great way for them to give you what you want to avoid scaring off customers.

Good thing I only put $25 down if that's the case. Jesus Christ this is a DICK move. I mean a week before release. This is like Dick Dastardly evil.

Methinks I shall be popping into HMV to pre-order, just in case, what with 2 out of 3 shops in my town not stocking it

I wonder if the GAME closing down sale will be the same as Best Buys, everything 50% off or better.

It doesn't say sold-out there, in fact I'm at the check-out to pre-order page. Unless I'm missing something.

    EDIT.

Ok, I'm a little confused. I clicked that link posted, pressed pre ordered, but before I checked out and payed I clicked it again, and then there was no option to pre-order like before. I finished the transaction anyways and payed the £65, so I'm just wondering if I actually did pre order it, or I missed it? :/

    EDIT 2:

Well, it's saying it'll be delivered to me on the 9th, guess I just got mega lucky?

I just spoke to the store my pre-order is at. At the moment as far as they know, Game Australia isn't suffering the same fate as its parent stores in the UK.

This lucky for me (so far) but is still deeply unfair to fans and customers in the UK.

Due to having poor Christmas sales along with having a pretty bad year in general GAME don't have the funds to be allowed credit on getting the new releases as it can't afford to pay what it would owe.

For example if GAME wanted to purchase 100,000 copies of mass effect 3 it would have 3 months to pay EA for this, but due to GAMEs situation they cannot guarantee payment and thus EA or whomever won't agree to the sale as there is a huge chance they wouldn't be paid.

EA isn't in the wrong here.

Not just EA either-- Nintendo and Ubisoft are both involved. No Ubisoft PSvita games in any store or Mario Party 9.

I have to say though, I'm not surprised this has happened. I worked there about 3 years ago as a second job over Christmas, ad this was something people were saying was going to happen back then. As far as I'm aware, nothing has changed. You'd think a new buisness model would have been put in place.
I remember being told I had an attitude for wondering why they forced us to try and sell pre-owned games to parents buying gifts for christmas. I understand some people don't mind that, but most parents just wanted in, buy new, get out. It's no wonder customers are going elsewhere to shop.

Correct. :(  If their finances are in such a state that they cannot comfortably guarentee sales and payment of something like bloody Mass Effect 3 then their business is only going one way.

And I agree that someone at Game HQ should have noticed (since everyone else certainly did, years ago) and actually done something to forestall it. There seems to be a curious mindset in some companies, to power on through imminent financial troubles without changing anything, to their demise. I've seen it often enough (particuarly in this town), that I wonder if it's a question of incompetancy or plain inability.

I preorder the CE with them for the exclusive content so naturally I was pretty concerned when I heard the news and immediately sent them off an email got this reply:
