Also, all this FINAL WARS talk is so funny because that's what's on the docket for my Dai-Kaiju Double Feature tonight...I'm also watching FRANKENSTEIN CONQUERS THE WORLD which came in from Netflix!

 

The only thing I didn't like about Final Wars was the painfully obvious Return of the Jedi reference at the end. I liked pretty much everything else.

The scenes about Americans. LOL. The pimp flipping off the cop with the wrong finger. ROTFL!!

 

A large part of the reason why I hated Final Wars wasn't because I expected it to be the last and therefore best Godzilla movie, but it simply didn't live up to even the standards of the previous few G movies.

The tone of the movie took a complete 180. Based on early concepts and information, we were all led to believe that this would be the most gritty and serious one yet.

Instead, we got cheesy music from Zebrahead that doesn't match the film at all, very inconsistent special effects, very shoehorned and one sided monster fights, and goofy humor like the "soccer game" between KC, Rodan, Anguirus and Godzilla. And let's not forget those blatant Independance Day and Star Wars ripoffs.

There were some cool moments in the movie, but those were too few and far in between the bad stuff.

 

You guys think we will EVER see the 80s/90s Toho Godzilla movies get decent Region 1 releases with full Japanese audio? Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla just isn't enough!  

 

I think we will.
But I've been living in a world full of gumdrops and lollipops, so I've been unusually optimistic lately  

 

As long as Sony maintains their deal with Toho to distribute the Heisei films, I'm not getting my hopes up.

I think we'll get releases of Godzilla 1985 and Godzilla vs Biollante first. Sony does NOT have the rights to either of those, by the way.

 

I know it's not Godzilla but it's Kaiju related...saw REBIRTH OF MOTHRA I & II today.

I like how badass they made Mothra in these movies, but jesus christ do I wish they didn't gear the Rebirth movies towards kids. I mean, I don't mind it when they gear Kaiju films towards kids and it actually ends up being good (ie Gamera the Brave.) But holy god were these movies hard to watch for the first 80 minutes.

 

Which is the one where the furry overcute Ewok-type creature revives a character by pissing on him? Rebirth or Mothra I or II?

On the topic of the RoM movies, do we know why King Ghidorah kidnapped all those children in Rebirth 3?

While we're on the subject, anyone remember the cheapass CG in Rebirth 2 when the mini Aqua Mothras enter into Dagarah's body? *cringes*

 

Dagahra is to King Ghidora as Zilla is to Godzilla. Just feels like a bad imitation.

Hey, does anyone remember the badass "G-Force" hats featured in "Godzilla Against Mechagodzilla?"

I've been hoping to find that they made them somewhere whether as legit merch or some wonderful fan project, but without any luck. It looks like I may have to settle for trying to make one myself.

So here's the question...before I go through the effort...does someone out there know something I don't? Is there a secret store or something that I have failed to stumble upon with these in stock?

Just a heads up! The Bandai Tokyo Vinyl figures are now available! I spotted the first wave (2004 Godzilla and 70's Mechagodzilla) at my local TRU! Happy Hunting!

I think I remember reading some news tidbit from Toyfair that Bandai America will no longer be making 12 inch figures. Everything from now on will be the regular sized figures, clear variants, and those stylized vinyls.

 

Lol, no way they're even comparable. N11 was at least funny to watch. But the mini aquamothra sequence in Rebirth 2 just gave me a big plain facepalm.

 

Shit...
