    IDW Galvatron kaix version
I got this commission, again, last december, this actually came first, but the project was technical so it needed lots of preparation time.

The client, inspired by rainchang007's custom, wanted a transforming IDW Galvatron version.
so after some meetups and discussions, i took these as references:
    [IMG][IMG][IMG]
    [IMG][IMG][IMG]
    ------------
    [IMG] [IMG]
i did this lineart to be my guide on the desk.
i have to make it close to the lineart as much as possible to meet the client's requirement and requests,
so i did some measuring and stuff, with Classics Megatron as the base figure.

    [IMG] [IMG]
basically, this figure's construction is not symmetrical, that i had problems with.
since it's gonna be done my way, i just hollowed out the insides and reconstructed a new shoulder connection.
@right pic, the black marked area is to be trimmed so the head details and horns can make way inside without bumping to other parts.

    [IMG] [IMG]
the new shoulder construction should be solid, the ratcheting joints is a must for support,
he'll be having a big fusion cannon. so i reinforced it with putty.

and since it's putty time... here is the resculpted head.

Looking good so far, man! I have a few more reference images of IDW Galvatron that I can post up soon, in case you need more. Looking forward to seeing more on this one. I loved what Rainchang did and this looks like it's heading in the right direction.

I think the only tip I could give right now is maybe to make the horns on the sides of the head just a bit thicker or wider, based on the reference art. It looks great as it is, I just think it might make the head a bit bigger and more menacing. Keep up the great work!

    thank you!
yep, same here! rainchang really made a storm on his custom!
i had some thoughts on the horns after this and did some trial and error but i hope the next update explains.

    some updates

    [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]
with styrene beams, right side of the torso is filled, also
made a frame on the sides of the folding chest part with it.
expanded the width and made a hole on the center of the chest part.

    [IMG] [IMG]
because of the new width and center hole,
the horns are now safe when the chest part is folded.
right pic: horn tips secured. no bumps.

    [IMG] [IMG]
    more styrene on the chest.
putty was applied on the gaps of the non-symmetrical shoulders, also later on the chest.
*one of the challenges here is to make the parts symmetrical. :banghead:

after a long sanding session + a pack of cigarettes and a liter of iced tea.
    we got this.

    thanks again guys!

    here's a short update

for the shoulder armor. i noticed this
    [IMG]
shoulder armor folds down on alt mode.
another "must" that i'll be doing.

    [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]
made a hole aligned on the back part screw slot of the shoulder.
middle pic: how the fold happens.

    [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]
with 5mm tubes and gundam sprues, i made a construction that will "lock" both pieces.

    [IMG] [IMG]
some more styrene stuff to secure the shoulder armor.

    [IMG] [IMG]
    shoulder armor folding down smoothly.
i'll be doing the left side now then add some details.
symmetrical arms and new hip construction will be next. :banghead:

Looks great so far. Will it transform when you're finished?

thanks for looking buddy! yes it will transform. i'm still thinking between retracting legs(deluxe seekers/voyager jetfire style) or a 180 degree bend transformation for the legs to get a near-accurate look.

    Symmetrical arm design? Challenge accepted.
    [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]
sawed off the arms. elbow joint retained for ratchet joints.
SB wrist joint for rotating articulation with styrene, polycap and putty.

hollowed leg internals for knee bend.
this will play an important factor for the alt mode.

    [IMG] [IMG] [IMG]
the original waist joint relocated at the center for waist rotation.

    things to do:
-armor up the waist and legs.
    -SB folding panels for arms.
    -fusion cannon

It's shaping up nicely. I can't wait to see how you beef-up his legs.

2mm plastic beams are really great for making the frame on this one.
gaps were sealed with epoxy and tamiya putty
