TBH, movie Optimus Prime is refreshing to me. In all reality, we should be on like our 237th Decepticon leader as OP in previous incarnations(not so much in Prime OP yet) has been a fairly ineffective and bordering on dereliction as a leader. I love the dude, but he is at war and supposed to be protecting innocents, yet every time he gets the upper-hand on Megatron, he stops to run his mouth just long enough to let the guy off the hook. If he would just shut up and rip a face every now and then he would be much better at his job.

There is some hope that Prime Optimus can do his job better than his predecessors, but I doubt it.

Every single American general would be fired if they brought the same results as OP in battle.

 

Oh yeah, Prime OP is a terrible shot.

Cybertronian Technology is supposed to be more advanced than ours yet, 99% of the time, when we use our fire control systems we hit what we aim at with deadly accuracy. Why then are advanced alien robots missing the mark like 90% of the time?

 

TFP Op is a pretty good shot. He regularly hits his mark. Now G1 Prime. . .

 

But he died for our sins.

 

 

Both Primes have their strong points, I find, but I'm gonna have to vote BayPrime. He's definitely the guy you want on your side when it's time to kick ass  

Though PrimePrime (LOL) did totally show Megatron why you don't mess with his buddies

I personally would like to have seen Sentinel's execution scene done a little differently too:

Sentinel (fatally wounded by Megatron and pleading for forgiveness and understanding): Optimus, all i wanted was the survival of our race. You must understand why I had to betray you.

Optimus (kneeling by Sentinel and in a pained voice): You didn't betray me, you betrayed yourself. The Sentinel Prime I knew...died a long time ago. [Fires gun through Sentinel's chest and ends his suffering. Sentinel dies quickly and mercifully.] May you find forgiveness beyond, Sentinel.

That's...that's actually pretty awesome. It still leaves enough "action hero one-liner" in there to appease the violence-junkies, but offers a bit of insight into Optimus' decisions when he kills. I actually really like that scene you described.   Good stuff!

 

I don't like the Bay movies so the WINNER, for me, is Prime Prime !

 

I like that movie Optimus is a good fighter, if he was terrible like in TF1 then it would be so boring watching him get thrown around by megatron all the time and it also makes him a more powerfull leader (IMO)

But I like Prime Prime aswell because he has a better reasoning manner

 

I prefer the peaceful negotiator Optimus over the violent and angry Optimus, but they both have their reasons for acting the way they do.
Peaceful Prime is tired of war and death, hopes he can change some Decepticons, though he knows that Megatron will never change.
Movie Optimus doesn't want to fight anymore, and knows that all the Decepticons he fights are backstabbing bloodthirsty psychos, so the only way to end the fighting is to kill them all.

 

And already a big improvement right there.

I think that calling Transformers 1 Optimus a "terrible fighter" is a bit of a stretch. He went toe-to-toe with Bonecrusher (before beheading him), and so what if Megatron threw him around? He's MEGATRON. Optimus got some hits in as well. He was basically there to distract Megatron from any humans or other Autobots. Plus, fighting in a city, collateral damage and all of that stuff. Optimus wasn't willing to go "full auto" yet. In the forest or Egypt? Sure. Not many humans or giant skyscrapers around. Chicago? Simple enough, at this point in the game, Optimus just didn't give a f**k.

 

that's been an issue for Autobots since 1984. Only a few heroic characters are capable of aiming (Optimus, Rattrap, Rhinox, thug with his guns, you don't really miss)

 

Now that's an ending. Hopefully Bay could pull a George Lucas and add that in.
