Something always intrigued me about the Vehicons in Prime but could never quite put my finger on it as to why.

Then after buying the new cyberverse versions...it hit me.

The carmodes look very remnescent (use your imagination) of the 1970's horror classic, "The Car" even their personalities somewhat reflect it. (the early eps anyway)

What do you guys think of this, is it coincidence?

The 1970's are looks more like a "proto type" for the Vehicon.

 

Suddenly, I want to see concept art of a 70's-era Vehicon. Followed by a toy.

 

Wow! Amazing discovery you've found! There's some STRONG similaritys between the Car and the Vehicon!

Actually it may make a good episode! It can have one of the Vehicons go insnae and starts killing the other Vehicons and humans and the main Autobots and Decepticons could try to find which Vehicon is the murderer!

The only similarities i can see are that "they're both dark coloured cars", "they're both sentient" & "they're both evil". Other than that i don't see anything. Come to think of it, i'm really starting to hate these threads that just seem to grab at thin air.

 

It's not really grabbing at air, there's a legit pattern here, not just in terms of designs, I mean how many cars do you know have those huge side things (not a car enthusiast) not to mention their behaviour patterns in the first few episodes. Two legit reasons to make the comparison.

 

It's very 1970's/80's Batmobile style too.

I can only see the Batmobile when I look at a Vehicon anymore. So my judgement is incredibly clouded.... but, I really don't see the resemblance. Sorry.-

 

I agree it looks a lot like the vehicons car mode. But their car modes look even more like some late model Cadillacs. particularly front end. I'll post a pic if I can find one and figure out how on this damn ipad.

Knowing the staff's love of old horror movies, it wouldn't surprise me.

 

I see the similarities between "the Car" & the Vehicons alt mode.

I remember watching "The Car" back when I was younger. Seeing a picture of it reminds me just how spooky and evil those headlights make the car look.

I do see the similarities between the too. But the Vehicon alt mode also reminds of the Batmobile.

I think it's coincidence - it's just using some generic design cues - but it's cool someone bringing up The Car. There's a slew of films like that too, from schlocky stuff like The Hearse thru to the masterpiece that is Duel. It's a great thriller/horror subgenre that should be revived.
