I realize this isn't a formal poll per se, but I'd still like to get a quick gauge of the average age most BW fans were when they first started watching the show. As I mentioned in previous posts, I was an adult (in fact I'd just graduated college) when this show first premiered. I just want to know if most of you ardent fans were kiddies/preteens, or perhaps a bit older when the show first came on the air.

I'm curious if the 'sticky-ness' of its emotional impact on you was due to your age/maturity level at the time, and so I'm just testing a theory.

I'm an 80's kid, grew up watching G1. I saw Beast Wars as an adult.

I don't remember what age, but I was a kid so 6 or 7 XD

It makes it even more sad is that if you listen closely, you can hear the sounds of Optimus' cannons and glass shattering. He was trying to escape, but it was too late.

That season finale was a shocker and BW knew how to bring it XD

I'll have to rewatch that. Never heard the canons or glass shattering. If so, that just makes it even cooler. And yeah, BW definitely knew how to bring it! I remember at the time of BW's series finale, Deep Space 9 was also wrapping up, and I remember thinking that BW went out way better. I felt real, genuine emotion when BW ended. When DS9 ended, it was just another day.

Whenever the Rhino dvds first hit in the early 2000s, which would have put me at around 30 at the time.

BW. At least I more-or-less tolerate it's graphic style. Also, BW have exceptionally (as for TF franchise) good written plot and no humans (pre-humans are episodic and don't count).

That's really unfair man. Prime just got done it's first season while Beast Wars has already had three seasons. Give Prime time to REALLY develop itself so it can catch up.

Seroisly has anyone made a thread like this about compairing Beast Wars to Animated? I wouldn't be suprised if both shows get more priase then Prime ever could then again not much people are rooting for Prime it seems.......

I think BW is easily the better show (and Animated is better than Prime as well), but Prime has only had one season, so it's not really fair to judge them.

I do give Prime credit for developing just about all of the characters (except like Optimus Prime). Scorponok and a few others were woefully underused in BW.

EDIT: Ah, now I remember this thread...

    :sly:

I watch both of these series but I have to give it to Prime.

The only thing I have against Beast Wars is why they turned into animals in the first place. I just can't get over that for some reason. And I like the characters in Prime more (even though the kids can be a bit annoying). But it's too soon to tell if Prime will be in a league of it's own or just a series that will come and go. I really want a 3rd season though! :D

I appreciate the :sly: , made me notice I wrote "an", not "and".

As for turning into animals, it's simple so they could fit in amongst the native fauna and flora (besides the dinosaurs and huge-ass bugs, though), but I'm sure it's just the concept you're questioning.

It was to so the enegon fields would not mess them up and make them over-load on energon, which is weird to me. That's why they did it because the planet had so much energon on it.

The reason was that Cybertron's resources were getting low and the inhabbitants needed to downsize themselves a bit so they won't use up much resources when neccesry. The other reason was that they found a way to recive altmodes with organic DNA so they can go through situatons more safely with those modes.

I love Beast Wars as much as Prime but I respect your opinons all the same! :)  BW was the first TF show I ever watched. Trust me if you thought the concpet of Animals was strange in Beast Wars then you should check out Beast Machiens where they took it ten fold up!

I also agree that it's MUCH too soon to compair Prime to Beast Wars yet because Prime's not done it's run yet while Beast War's run ended long ago. That and Prime's only entering it's second season as well. Prime is fastly getting on Beast Wars's level however and if it improves all the way too it may dare I say surpass Beast Wars in time. I know that's crazy talk but still. So I think it's best that we should let Prime finish it's run first so we can properly compire it to Beast Wars because at this rate it's too early and we don't know if it will be better or worse.

We should instead in the meantime compaire Beast Wars to Animated since Animated is an equally priased show and finshed it's run long ago too!

Because vehicles were boring as fuck at that point. Besides, their reasoning for them having animal alt modes is honestly better than just "for a diguise" of every other series. They had to protect their robot modes, but couldn't give up mobility for such long periods of time, so replicating animals was an good compromise between not a robot and being a static block with no means of accomplishing basic tasks. That was a great way of explaining them as animals and honestly makes me wish animals had become more the standard for TFs. Animals can act, they can do things, they can fight. Cars and planes can't act (well) they can't do anything except fly or drive and they can't fight unless you count ramming into things or just using guns, which is cool, but not as exciting as clawing and biting, leaping and dodging, tossing and smashing. There's nowhere near as much character to be portrayed through an unmoving vehicle than something with a face and body language. I loved when the Transmetals showed up because the characters functioned like normal TFs with the beast mode's flip out gadgets, but kept the character and acting ability.

Comparing just the first seasons Beast Wars is much better than Prime. It's still feels fresh among TF series to this day, witty, entertaining, dated but in a way that's charming, much like a show aware of it's time. (especially with all of Cheetor's 90's dialogue) Prime has little wit, the characters are far more standard. They're all fine on their own, but the interactions between them all seem unconvincing. Few of the Autobtos even seem like they're friends. Not that they hate each other, they just don't have any energy between them. With BW you felt like you were watching a family of really weird looking people. They all cared about each other but bickered constantly and half the time the plots were motivated by how the character's personalities clashed.

BW just sort of happened. Things fell into place and the story budded and evolved naturally and satisfactory over time. Prime feels like it has a checklist of "aspects of a good show" and is just attempting to check each box as quickly as possible. (most glaring was when it came to the "epic season finale box" and just decided to introduce Unicron as a physical being and bring in some never-before mentioned prophecy)

Let's not. there's not much to compare to, Animated sucked and I would not even classify that as a "show". It was just a bunch of random colors put together and the animators made the colors talk.

You got a problem then come at me, bro.
