Ya the masked one looks to be the best looking one and yes the maskless one does look freaky.

I kind of like the one sans mask. Just because most Optimus figures usually always have the mask. I like seeing his face on a toy form time to time.

You wont have to worry you're little fanboy head, the toys are packaged in robot-mdoe.

 

Since the Standard Optimus only comes with a Guns I very strongly suspect the other head was intended for a repaint that would come with swords instead.

I think they either deliberately (to make a chase) or accidentally put the the other head on it.

I also not that the mould has some very curious looking back attachments that serve not function on this version of the toys so I'm guessing he's going to get either an exo-suit trailer or a wing backpack at some point too.

Oh and he has a Trailer hitch already moulded in.

Bulkhead also has more attachment points on his arms than he currently needs too... suggesting a gun arm weapon version might follow.

 

I really don't think this was a mistake. If anything, it'll be like every other toy line out there and be a chase version. And I'm all for that. I wish Hasbro would do it more often to get great little deas like this out there, without it having to take up a slot in a future wave (and saturate the shelves)

 

So this maskless version is just a variant from Hasbro because the mass release will be the one with mask right?

When was the last time we got a superficial remold of a Scout-sized figure?

I can't remember any such remolds of any figure smaller than a Deluxe since Beast Wars (barring remolds for structural reasons and, of course, remolding to be Cyberverse-compatible). Closest that comes to mind was Cybertron Scrapmetal had two potential heads.

 

Odd...I'm typically a die-hard masked-Prime person, but I think I actually prefer the unmasked version of this toy. Damn you, brain, why you confuse me?

I think, if it wasn't a weird variant, maybe somehow they messed up and plastered Dreadwing's face on Optimus?

The maskless one does exist - it is going to see mass retail as Nightwatch Optimus Prime in wave 3 with Ultra Magnus.

Since both heads are on the runners out of the factory, it is entirely possible that the alternate head found its way onto the other body.
