Guys girls! I will be traveling to Malaysia february the 9th and will be in singapore February the 20th to 24th. Is there a good place to go for some robot-plasticrack etc? Also what will I find there? if it's not something to be discussed here I would still really like some PM's on the subject.

Also if I would post my itinerary here could you guys advise on tourist stuff?

Not too sure about where to shop for TF goodness in Malaysia but when you're in Singapore, you could visit China Square Central (http://www.chinasquarecentral.com/getting-here)on a Sunday where there's a weekly flea market which sells a varied range of TFs...

Or, you could visit Robo Robo at Excelsior Hotel (http://www.roborobo.com.sg/) on normal weekdays where they have stuff from vintage TFs to current selections :)

Sure some of our boys here will gladly take you around if we've got the time! :)

I have just come back from Singapore, and I would highly recommend

    - CSC; Go to Chinatown MRT, walk to the main road, walk along in the same direction as the traffic until you get to a crossing, then look right and you should see it.

    - Plaza Singapora; Dhoby Ghaut MRT, on the top floor.

These are high saturation places, with CSC having three great stores on the way in, a market stall round the back and another couple of shops on the second floor, and Singapora having three or four specialist stores in a row.

If there is something that you are specifically looking for, RoboRobo is probably your best option.

20th to 24th: 23rd and 24th Jan will be the Chinese New Year (CNY) holidays, while 22nd will be CNY Eve. Usually shops might take a holiday break in the afternoon of CNY Eve and on the two days of CNY, I do not know whether the toy shops will be open during those 3 days, so your best bet is to hunt on Friday and Saturday.

Assuming that prices will be the most important factor: Before you arrive in Singapore, you can try ebay.sg to check out the prices of items in your mind. Once you have that and when you are here in Sg, check out the department stores like Toys R Us or the specialty toy shops to compare and see which offers the best deal in your opinion.

For Malaysia - I would highly recommend these places:-

1toy - Located in Amcorp Mall in Petaling Jaya
The owner Terry and the shop supervisor Ah Soon gives good prices.

VHobby - Located in Mid Valley Megamall
The prices there are abit steep, but the selection there are good.

Famitoys - Located in Sunway Giza near Kota Damansara
If you are looking for vintages and 3rd party stuffs, good place to start.

As what zy80 said, do the hunting on Sat and Sun after Chinese New Year. Most of the shops are closed anyways during that time.

    Hi There!

One very important word of advice for tourists shopping in Singapore, you want to be very careful about getting ripped off by merchants who don't put price tags on their merchandise. Most Singaporean merchants are honest, but many who don't use price tags have a reputation for ripping off tourists, especially Caucasians. The two worst places are Sim Lim Square, which people are often mistakenly led to believe is the best place to buy consumer electronics, and Lucky Plaza which mostly sells Cameras. Both areas are notorious for ripping off tourists for hundreds of dollars. Channel News Asia even did exposes where they sent people of different races in undercover, and they would charge the Caucasians hundreds of dollars more. There's no real consumer protection in Asia, I think something like 900 complaints were filed in 2010 against shops at Sim Lim but there's no way to get a refund or anything once you buy something, and small claims court in Singapore is a waste of time.

It's not just tourists though, I've had toy dealers many times try to raise prices on me just because I'm a girl and they don't think I know! So the bottom line is just stick to shops with clear price stickers and you'll be fine.

I'd recommend the Simply Toys chain of shops, they have several locations in the malls here in Singapore. Simply Toys

They have very nice, clean well lit, well stocked shops, all MISB, and they carry most everything that gets released of Transformers. I think their Plaza Singapura and Raffles Place locations are the best, but the latter is a bit tricky to find.

U-Toys in Chinatown Square Central has really good prices too, and is supposedly the best place to get Vintage Transformers, but that's not my area of expertise. Most of the large department stores in Singapore like OG, Metro and Takashimaya carry Transformers, and I know they formerly carried all the Takara stuff too like Henekei's and Encores, but I'm mostly a beast wars/ animated/prime fan so I don't really keep up with that too closely. Seems like I don't see as much Takara things there now though. Takashimaya is a Japanese department store in orchard road so they were bringing stuff in too, they got all the Takara Beast Wars commemorative dvd sets, and brought in Animated Arcee too!

Also one other word of warning, most Singapore sellers have no idea what MISB and MIB really mean. They think a piece they've had on display for two years, gathering dust put back into the box with all it's pieces is MIB and charge full prices for them! There are some shops here that even sell them like that!

Also double check anything that is claimed to be MISB. Lot of Singapore sellers will open the toys to check all the pieces and then sell them with broken tape as MISB. I don't mind that in principle, but it's not truly MISB! And prices can be really crazy enough here already without that adding to it!

There are some sellers here who do have a reputation for grading boxes correctly. I've heard from several people our own member Automorpher is very good at grading, so if you're looking for vintage items you might want to PM him while you're here.

I hope you Enjoy it here, and if you need any help just send me a PM! I'm going to try and post here more often so I'll be checking my inbox more regularly (I've been pretty lazy about that in the past:dunce )

I beg to differ -- granted some of the sellers at Sim Lim Square (SLS) are no angels, but the apples aren't all rotten in that basket containing a select few who left a sour taste in the mouth of others. There are shops there who are not only reputable, but also geniunely friendly in wanting to serve while offering competitive prices as compared to anywhere else you may have in mind.

Regardless of that, the one pointer we should all remember is to stay firm in one's conviction towards a proposition and ALWAYS ASK IF THERE ARE ANY OTHER CHARGES IN THE PRICE THEY'VE QUOTED.

Having said that, while some cases of fruad are condemnable, there are also others which reeks of naivite. Note: there usually isn't any modification/firmware upgrade/etc that needs to be done on a IT gadget you buy -- these kinda things are do-able on your own and shouldn't require extra dollar from your pocket for rogue shopkeeprs to 'install' it for ya.

If anyone here's looking to get some IT gadgets before heading back, I might be able to help as a guide or sorts if my schedule permits so just drop me a PM.

Thank you very much for this write up! I'm sure I'll be fine when haggling with dealers. I've been all over the world and it's the same almost everywhere.

I'll be on the look out for the odd vintage transformers and I'll look into 2011 - 2012 stuff too. I'm mostly just curious what can be found where. I was in Tokyo last year (twice actually) and that got me some great Takara vintage toys. Mostly I know what kind of prices I want to pay for which items and I'm not one to get caught up in bidding or to pay a crazy high price on an item.

regarding opening the box; in Japan that's business as usual. Just to check the contents of the box.

If you know of any places to go for good dinner or great tourist stuff (I'm more of a 'hidden gems' than a 'high price restaurant' kind of guy. Please PM me their names and addresses!

So all the replies I've had for now are from Singaporeans are there no Malaysians?

    thanks again!

    iDD

Yo iDarkDesign well the best advice I can give is to do your toy hunting between the 20 to the 22 as we be celebrating Chinese New Year on Monday and Tuesday and it be like a ghost town. Most shops will be closed. If you r planning to go to China Square Central on Sunday be sure to go early like 10am onwards, most will close shop early and other location like Dhoby Ghaut and Robo Robo it preferable u go on Saturday for fear of them closing on Sunday. The great thing is all the location are near the Transit system and between Dhoby Ghaut and City Hall (where robo robo is located) it is only 1 stop about 5min train ride...

China Square Central is abt three stops from Dhoby Ghaut abt 10min train ride. Oh and try to get the Transit map it will help you out... If u need more clarification PM me I might be able to meet early in the day....:D

Oh happy hunting bro.......may ur hunts be fruitful..

I'm always looking for good deals but I prefer to stay away from MISB. Right now I'm really into victory & Masterforce vintage but I've also got a lot of Headmasters to collect.

But also the newer stuff. No chug, but stuff like Prime. And odd items from BWNEO and Second.

I had no idea what to expect from your part of the globe.
