I want to join a gaming forum, but I'm at a loss as there's a buttload of them (most less desirable than others). You guys got any suggestions? .
Neogaf is the best, but it might take a long time to have your account activated and the rules there are very, very strict.
TFW2005's gaming forum. Honestly I haven't gone to a gaming forum that does a good job of keeping trolls at bay, or just keeping people in line. My main hobbies are video games and transformers, but I won't even join a gaming forum. Transformer fans get a lot of flack for being petty, but they are saints (at least on this site) compared to gamers.
I presume gaming in general... so here's a few to check out. TFW2005 Gaming Forum: http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/video-games-technology/ - I don't believe I need to explain. MMORPG: Online MMO and MMORPG Gamelist, News, Reviews and Community at MMORPG.com - If you happened to be into MMOs in general. Games for Windows Live: PC Games | Games for Windows - Live - Xbox.com - Windows and Xbox 360 community, all gaming between PC and console. Steam: Steam Users' Forums - Powered by vBulletin - All PC titled games, probably some console IGN: Video Games, Cheats, Walkthroughs, Game Trailers, Reviews, News, Previews & Videos at IGN - All purpose gaming community, you can comment on articles Windows 7 Forums: Windows 7 Forums - though technically help support forum, but they do have a spot dedicated to gaming. Linux: Gaming / Multimedia / Entertainment - for the free OS crowd in the TFW forums Apple OS: https://discussions.apple.com/index.jspa - (IMO, a Linux OS with a $1500 digital designer Apple logo) did not specifically find one for gaming, but this should be a start. Don't forget your favorite PC and console communities, game title sites and game manufacturers.
Thanks for the suggestions everyone. I truly appreciate this forum as you all are really cool, and this place is not a cluster**** like some other places (coughgamefaqscough). I've heard about NeoGaf's strictness, but are they effective in filtering worthless (and otherwise trollish) posts? .
I've heard good things about Giant Bomb. TFW does surprisingly well (probably because it's a very active board), so I concur with the other posters who said that. Despite it being an occasionally terrifying lurk for the occasional weirdo (so, really, I ought to be right at home ), I also frequent the /v/ imageboard. It's fun, if you can live with the nature of life on that part of the web.
I do check some popular gaming sites solely for news updates and the occasional review, but when I scroll down to see the comment section, I am generally reminded why I don't get invloved with gaming forums.
Ha, tell me about it, sometimes joining (or merely browsing) forums is the only way to get more info though.
TFW is my main forum for game discussion, granted I don't post a whole lot. It can be hard to find a good forum. TFW, NeoGaf, and GB have a pretty mature set of users. Theres the occasiona idiot or someone who doesn't yet understand how the world or business works but they usually go away fairly quickly. I do use one game specific forum (for Mortal Kombat, mostly full of kids who don't understand a thing), and I help/troll at the official Xbox forums.
The tfw gaming forum is a shell of it's former self. In regards to neogaf it's like the hipster of the gaming forums along with every other thread being just lists. Uncharted 3 didn't set the world on fire with its gameplay so now they all claim uncharted 1 is the best and if you question it you're pretty much fucked. Such an odd place.
Almost every video game forum I've seen is horrendous. I did sign up for a Neogaf account some time ago but have never posted there. Around about the time they validated my email address (which took so long I'd forgotten I'd signed up) there was some sort of beef going on involving the mods 'outing' a poster there as an employee of Turn 10 or Microsoft (I don't quite remember) due to him apparently trolling. Now, I had to plans to troll there but the email address I signed up with was my work one (belonging to SCEE) and I didn't like the thought that if a mod decides to take issue with me for whatever reason, they feel they have the right to divulge my personal information. Fuck that.
The guy was basically a viral marketer who was deliberately disrupting the GT5 threads. They were absolutely right in outing the guy for what he was. Shady shit like that should be brought to light. NeoGAF is probably the best gaming forum out there, bar none. Ignoring the "official" topics, there are a metric shit tonne of insightful, helpful and knowledgeable folk there to have discussions with.
Ah I see, never did really look into what all the fuss was about. Still, I'm content with just lurking over there every now and again. My post count is pretty tiny on every board I belong to anyways; there's just not enough of me to go around
