When I first saw TFP's face, I had an issue with it. I really did. But now I really like it for some reason. But why did the creators decide to give him such a cute and innocent baby face? I mean he looks adorable now. I wonder if there is a reason for that beyond what so many think?

 

This thread's title gave me a thoroughly disturbing mental image.

 

It's not really a baby face. To me he looks like Batman.

 

His faceplate stunted the growth of his face.

 

I did too. I thought all of them looked weird. But it's a thing that grows on you, I guess.

At first I was like, "Dude, keep the face shield on and we'll be cool." But now I love his face too! I don't know why, but I do. He's so adorable I can barely stand it, especially when he smiles. I get all happy inside!  

I think the did that to make him look more friendly and to make Megatron to look more evil. I mean the movie Optimus looked a bit scary, and he never smiled either.

 

Perhaps they wanted him to appear more friendly. He can be kind of distant at times.

My major issue is that there's nothing where his nose should be.

 

I'm opposite. I used to be cool but now it just feels so... ill-fitting. It needs more defined cheeks. It doesn't help his lips never, ever sync up with the dialogue.

 

The no nose thing was really weird, but at least with his face shield, it makes him look like he has one.

And now I can't imagine him with a nose. It would look really out-of-place. And robots don't need noses. Smell isn't that important to them and they don't breathe.

 

The only thing wrong with the nose is that most of the other characters have spikes hanging over their faces that replace the nose. Prime has none which leaves a lot of blank grey space. This makes him look odd.

 

I thought I was the only one!  

 

I think he should keep his face covered forever.

By the way, when I read that, I laughed so hard.  

And the nose thing, my guess is that the animators thought the face shield would make up for the lack of a nose otherwise. Plus he's got that giant crest thing.

 

I've always been cool with it, but Peter's voice sounds a bit strange coming out of the face. I would expect this face to be for a younger Optimus; which was proven correct when I watched One Shall Rise Part 3. His expressions and demeanor fit perfectly with the young, innocent Orion Pax. If Optimus had a more detailed face a la the movies to show his age and fit Peter's distinguished voice, it would work.

I still like his face regardless, but it doesn't quite fit Optimus Prime.

 

It immediatley grew on me when I began watching the first episodes of TFP. It grew to me so much that he looks a little wierd now when he has his mouthplate on for battle but not nearly as much weirdness as TFA Optimus where his face -without the mouthplate- is something I got used to and when he had the mouthplate on, he look so wierd to me.

 

At first, I didn't like his face, but then he smiled.

I've never seen an animated (animated, Comic, or Orime CG) Optimus Prime "face" with a nose, so I'm kinda' confused. It's awesome that it grew on you though. I think the "plain" look to it actually makes it kinda Unique, and, when you think about it, it fits right in with the aesthetic that's set by all of the other bot faces on the show!

 

Prime's face reminds me of that episode of The Office (American version) where Dwight cuts off the face of a 1st aid dummy & wears it on his face. It's less creepy, but the irrelevant comparison still stands.

 

  The Prime section is FILLED with strange titles...

 

I've gotten useed to it but I'm still not a fan of it or this Optimus.
