Actually Bay didn't want to direct a 2 hour Hasbro toy commercial and had the Writers completely change the script before he agreed to do it. Of course instead of making a Hasbro toy commercial Bay ended up with a GMC car commercial. Not sure how that makes it better.

That being said I think that's why Transformers Prime and the latest Star Trek movie which are both written by the same guys are so much better than any of the live action Transformers movies.

I'd really like to see what the movies would of been like if they pitched their original script idea to a different director instead of changing it to please Micheal Bay. I don't know why they were so intent on getting Micheal Bay as the director. They probably would of changed the characters and title into a Go-Bots reboot if Micheal Bay asked them to.

I would love to have Bay back for a fourth installment. He did wonders with the first one and did well enough on the second and third ones for us to be even having this conversation

This. I knew he was hesitant to direct it unless he could "make it real", but did he actually have them change the script? (And by "script", I mean "the basic template they had at that very early stage of pre-production"). I'd honestly like to know if this is true or not.

About the only real change Bay had Orci/Kurtzman do was expand Epps/Lennox's role in the story, because he wanted more military presence.

Well it's a pretty old source but if you want to research it try looking for quotes from Roberto Orci about the making of the first film.

That quote there appears to be from a BotCon Panel. Unfortunately I'm an actor which means I have no money to go to BotCon. At any rate the quote there doesn't even address how they got Micheal Bay to direct the movie just what it was like to work with him.

I don't think it will help but the information was originally posted by Roberto Orci on the official movie forums which no longer exist. (I checked) You can look if you want but I can't find a link to their forums page. Transformers: Dark of the Moon DVD & Blu-ray™ | Own it 9/30 | Official Movie Site

The only way you'll find it is if someone saved the quote somewhere or if you can take a time machine back to 2007. The first option is more plausible the second is just an exaggeration of how difficult that might be.

That's true! And this isn't a first time that big time drector didn't want to do what will become a famous multi millon pupular movie franchise. Tim Burton didn't at first want to do the first two Batman films but after a few more looks he was into it and look how well they did!:)
