Im one of those with asperges who used to be insulted by every little joke but now i just tolerate it to the level im constantly putting myself down for laughs
Diagnosed by a professional is different than being awkward and claiming a condition, so you have my respect, sir. Oddly enough, it seems as though some of the symptoms Surge listed earlier can either be asbergers or puberty. I think I met the criteria when I was 13 or so.
I have osteogenesis imperfecta, not badly that it effects my brain, but disabled. Though I can't imagine myself any otherway, haha, I've done alot with my life and volunteer almost every weekend to help out kids who have the same thing with counciling.
I have this bizarre disorder that makes gin taste awesome, but it also facilitates some weird time travel where I wake up in a future in which my girlfriend is suddenly pissed off at me.
OCD and anxiety. (Yes, diagnosed. Not pulling it out of thin air, or my ass.) OCD's not too bad, in fact it's rather mild. The anxiety though, it can be a horrible and cold bitch. As for those making comments like "Assburgers" and finding any of this funny, one day you'll see the other side. I hope someone shows you more compassion than you've shown here. You'll need it.
Don't know if it's something diagnosable (what isn't nowadays?), but I'd rather do stuff on my own and not be around people a lot of the time. Not that I don't like people as a whole, it's just that I can get more done by myself.
Oh shit ive also been diagnosed by anxiety. My medication is currently Ritalin and Zoloft (the latter is for anxiety)
Yeah, and remember when dyslexic kids were just called dumb? And schizophrenics were just possessed? And whatever happened to autistic people simply being "idiot savants"? We're oh-so-PC these days. Yes, over-diagnosis can be a big problem in a user-pays healthcare system, and the "worried well" encourage it. But I really hate it when someone comes along with some glib generalisation about mental illness. Also, people with ADD and Aspergers aren't mentally ill. They may be more likely to suffer from mental health problems because of the additional stress they're under when relating to the world around them, but the condition itself is not.
Yeah actually, I do. Growing up in the 70's allowed all kinds of stereotypes and cruelty to show their ugly heads. It was especially frustrating when you knew someone with true issues that were shrugged off as eccentric behavior or just being stupid. Also, I wasn't trying to make glib generalizations. If anything it was an aimed comment at self-analyzed jackasses using the current en-vogue PC terms to explain their 'conditions'.
I had/have some form of dyslexia. Forgot what it was called but had to do with numbers and maths. It takes me way too long to figure out what time it is looking at an analog clock, so I guess I still have it. Numbers just take more effort to deal with sometimes, though nothing crippling or life ruining. Also, I think I went through depression several years ago but never got it diagnosed as such and never got any meds. Just kicked my own ass out and over it and moved on with life.
