And as you may infer from what Chris says, that consequently means that these particular masters for all three series from Toei, are different from those found on the Japanese Pioneer DVD sets from a few years ago, having slightly poorer picture quality than those used for the Japanese DVDs, which in themselves weren't particularly good to start with, as MACRAPTRON said on the first page.

Yeah, essentially all Shout (and apparently Hasbro) did was take the original translations from the UK sets and added in more Transformers-centric dialogue choices, often featuring blatantly inaccurate wording and anachronistic terminology that wasn't actually coined until a good decade or two after these series were produced. Any claims from Shout that Hasbro had any of these episodes newly translated from scratch are therefore outright wrong; they're lying.

13" x 17"? Just a wild guesstimate without actually measuring it. Its pretty big. The cardboard envelope it comes in takes up the entire bottom of the box it ships in, which is why most of us thought it was just a piece of cardboard to serve as backing.

No loss if the litho gets thrown away. It at least could have been glossy or higher resolution. Not really sure what to do with it...

Anyone else think it's odd that they used the US release box art for Ft Max for the Japanese Series Set. Why not the Takara version where he is holding the sword?

I got the Japanese Collection in the mail today. In Masterforce, it's definitely the Japanese names. He's Ginrai, not Mr. Optimus Prime.

    Yeah, any reviews?

I've never gotten into the Japanese G1 stuff, but I'd like to.

I know purists would hate it, but I kind of like the idea of them using the North American names...

To be honest, I'd love to see this dubbed someday, too.

Well, I didn't care for the Headmasters subs ("I'm a Phase Six Decepticon!"), so, since I didn't like that set, I passed on this. YMMV, of course.

I won't talk about Headmasters bc I never really liked it then and I don't care much for it now. Masterforce and Victory are both very good, IMO. Masterforce is a more story driven series and is my most favorite TF series. Very good animation, an even better story that adds to the mythos of G1 TF, and it just shows that the makers of that series knew what they were doing.

As far as Victory goes, I guess you can compare it to Sentai/Power Rangers. It's usually the same rinse & repeat episodes, but Star Saber and all the other characters are just so cool, you won't really mind. I can't recommend these two series's enough and since they dropped the ball on Zone, be sure to check that out after you watch these two series'.

It wouldn't make sense to, because the fiction went in a completely different (and un-TF related, imo) direction in the Japanese shows. For example, you could never call Ginrai "Optimus Prime" because you could never pretend it's the same character without heavy re-editing of the show and massive amounts of re-shoots. Ginrai isn't even a robot. He's a human truck driver. And the "Optimus" body he uses is just an empty shell that he basically pilots.

Shout Factory did use the US names for Headmasters, which is the only series it would make sense for, since it was at least supposed to be a continuation of the US cartoon after season 3, and continued using many of the season 3 characters. But from Masterforce on, all bets are off.

So definitely check out Headmasters, but Masterforce and Victory are not as important?
