How is Straxus any different from Drift-chan anyways, except that he isn't just a glorified page-filler?:inquisiti

I'd have to agree with this re: their choice for Darkmount's altmode. It may have worked better for his toy if they've gone with something alien.

Meh, they're free not to like it. Though it is kind of funny that Hasbro drops a major fan-wank like this and it's still not good enough. :p

Though it could all be Justified if those ankles do end up being a problem.

Not really. At least on my part it's more like "couldn't this toy have sold just as well if they used a Cybertronian altmode?" I'm not sold on the assumption that alien vehicle mode = bad design.

I suppose. Though I would venture a guess that their thought process was that a more commercial character like Prime, Bumblebee and Megatron can probably sell a Cybertronian mode better then a more obscure character.

It certainly seems that way, or at least a character who is not part of the War for Cybertron roster isn't expected to get some sorta futuristic/alien altmode.

Not negative, just putting it in perspective. In isolation, it's probably quite a decent toy. But with some of the really top-notch deluxes we've seen in recent years, it just feels a bit second rate. For example, I was really surprised and impressed with the recent images of deluxe Terradive, and in my view this just isn't on the same level.

Looks more like something they made up after the fact, rather than specifically designed. Normally fans come up with 'fan modes'. I could probably get Universe Galvatron into a similar mode. Or even WFC Megatron.

Yeah, it is a little ironic.

While I definitely appreciate a good homage, it doesn't guarantee a free pass. Regardless of whether the toy is geared towards a small minority of fans or not, I'm going to assess it on what I see as it's merits and flaws as a tf. Even though it's great that they care enough to make such a careful homage, the end result is just a bit fugly, IMO.

Darkmount looks awesome. The Generations line is so cool, the only thing that could make it better would be the addition of Voyager figures, and move Darkmount to it and give us a WFC Prime (and Ultra Magnus repaint)
