I'm tempted to get this, but I already have the Japanese box sets... Decisions! Decisions!

What I really want is Beast Wars II and Beast Wars Neo!

 

Pre-ordering. Should be a very cool set.

 

I'm really torn on this one. On the one hand I'll finally get a US release of this set and won't have to use a region free player anymore. On the other hand, I love what Metrodome did with their sets, especially the commentaries by Chris, the informative booklets that detailed the peculiarities of the Japanese series, and their decision to use Japanese names in Masterforce and Victory. As much as I wanna hit the pre-order button I think I'll hold off and wait to see what fans' reactions are to Masterforce and Victory (the reception to Headmasters has seemed positive).

PS. This is even tougher because I'm currently watching Metrodome's Masterforce. LOVE this series!! Would hate to see Shout! not do it justice.

 

Dammit. I bit on $15 Headmaster just last week. I couldn't say no to that price. Wonder what this will go for on Amazon... I'd almost prefer individual releases since I already have HM separately.

 

English dub and or subtitles?

 

Think I'll just wait on the preorder. I've always been curious about the Japanese cartoons, so I'll get them someday.

I don't see how they could do that, even if they wanted to. It's a huge plot point that he isn't. Calling Ginrai "Optimus" would be a level of story butchering we haven't seen in translated Japanese animation in probably 2 decades at this point.

 

so are these ment to have better translations of the subtitles than the original DVD release?

You haven't heard the Asian English dubs then have you? Because thats exactly what they do They translate every name to their English equivalent, even if the character isn't the same. Heck, even in Victory they refer to the Dinoforce in their Monster-Pretender names!!??. And when God Ginrai dies and is re-created as Victorty Leo, Percepter says "It's the NEW Optimus Prime- VICTORY LEO"- gah- I cringe every time I hear that. I already have the series on R2 DVD sets (which have English dub audio, and 2 Chinese dialects audio & chinese subs). I cant wait to have this in Original Japanese audio with *hopefully* accurate english subs.

Will there be individual releases of Masterforce and Victory as well? I already own Headmasters and I don't want to buy it again...

 

You know what though? It's Hasbro's call. I mean, it's their property, so if they want to give them those names, then Shout! Factory's hands are tied.

That being said, it's Japanese audio, so unless they [BLEEP] out the names, you'll still hear the character being called by that name.

 

English or at least subtitles?

 

I'm hoping for much the same, as I'd prefer to order through Amazon.com.
