We Bought a Zoo - 8.5/10: Cameron Crowe returns after 6 years and gives us the tale of a widowed Father trying to start anew with his cute and precocious daughter, and moody teenage son. At the insistence of his daughter, he purchases a house in the country that includes a zoo with a group of both eclectic animals and keepers.

Has its moments of comedy, and the stock character traits we all know so well (knower-of-life women, mentor-ish friend/relation, precociously vocal little child, and free-spirited young woman).

The Muppets - 8.5/10: Definitely has its moments, but it didn't completely take me away like I had hoped. However, I did have plenty of little emotional moments, and it did feel like Jason Segal was hoping to get the audience to go home and demand a return of the Muppet Show.

    Cars 2.

Why all the dislike for this movie? I found it funny and I had a blast trying to identify the cars in the movie.

    A Christmas Carol (1984) ~ 10/10

    Love everything about this movie.

The second spirit is my favorite.

He had a very hearty laugh.

The part where Scrooge is jumping around on the bed was classic.

It seems like critics don't like movies with lots of cool cars in racing while I personally love them to death. They say that it's hard to identify with characters that are cars. I never heard this complaint in A Bug's Life. I hate bugs and I still love that movie. To me, Up is Pixar's worst movie so far and the original Cars is tied for my favorite with Toy Story 3.

Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance - 9.5/10

I would give this film a different title - Everything goes to shit whilst unfitting music is played. It stays very true to the grimdark nature of the original series, in some cases even surpassing it such as the entire ocean now being a uninhabitable ooze that kills marine life. The animation is utterly, utterly beautiful as one would expect and at times I forgot to read the subtitles and just gawped at the gorgeous visuals. My personal favourite part of the movie is how this time around Rei gets a little bit more characterisation rather than "I am emotionless and expendable." When Shinji loses his shit to rescue her, it actually made me choke with emotion for a second.

Why not a ten? Evangelion always produces a fair ammount of "WTF IS GOING ON" moments and that irks me sometimes. I don't like having to have to read a Wikipedia article after I've seen a film just to make sure I haven't missed everything.

I need the Bluray of this NAO.

They had a limited sneak preview screening on Saturday around 7pm in select cities and theaters. I was curious since so many people just destroyed him over Elizabethtown, but I'm more forgiving.

Personally, I think it's mainly Pete Doctor's filmmaking style. While Monsters Inc and Up both have some good emotional moments, there are a few times where the logic really gets thrown out the window. Though I also have a bit of a beef with Wall-E, regarding the whole human civilization and their workings over 700 years out in space.

I also have no problems with Cars (I may be biased as I have 230+ diecasts from the first movie around my desk at work). I guess the idea of a world populated just be vehicles and human traits just doesn't work for some people.

Some could even assume the same regarding Ponyville and its citizens, like the camera-rigs the ponies wear or how they operate some things without fingers.

Personally, I'd love to see Robot Chicken do a Maximum Overdriver parody involving Cars. The Cars come to life, try to be friendly, but finally can't take it and go on a mad rampage. To cover-up the existence of humans, they stack the dead bodies in their interiors, seal up the car windows, and paint over them in gray paint (which explains the grayed-out side-windows of all the vehicles in the Cars movie :p  ).

Re-watched a slew of great movies this weekend.

Back to the Future - 10/10
Just got the 25th Anniv. blu-ray, and I can say this movie's never looked or sounded better. Main reason for watching this again was because my g/f's never seen it (and she's 28!).
Everything about this movie's still fantastic: the story, the characters, and just overall charm. Depite it being my zillionth viewing, I found myself still hoping Marty gets back to the future/Lorraine & George get together/Biff gets put in his place, etc. Now to make time to get her to watch Part II + III.

    Goodfellas - 11/10
I'm not one to give these "exagerated scores" out of 10, but this truly is one of the all-time great films. EVERYTHING about this is top notch, a short two-and-a-half hours if there ever was one. And when all is said and done, we all know this is 1990's real Best Picture winner (Dances with Wolves, where you at?).
And had this won, the Academy would've saved themselves the embarassment of handing Scorcese the Best Picture/Best Director statuettes for the mediocre 'The Departed' in 2006.

    Batman Begin - 10/10
It's the goddam Batman, what more do you need?
Another film my g/f never saw (for shame!). Need to also squeeze in The Dark Night before Dark Kight Rises next summer.

    Fixed.

Why does The Departed get so much hate? I thoroughly enjoyed the movie, and thought Jack was great. I will admit Goodfellas is the better movie, but still.
