I just had the weird urge to watch the first one again, and I saw a lot of scenes that i used to think were cool, but now they seem freaking amazing! For example the part where Optimus saves Sam from Megatron and starts jumping from building to building, i thought that was a wicked cool scene, but now i noticed that Megatron just dives off the building(like a boss) and goes into free-fall to take Optimus down with him. After seeing that, i realized how much more credit that the scene deserves. What are your thoughts? Have you had any experiences like this?

 

I totally think the first one was the best one now. The Autobots got better characterization, there was only a small amount of silly/awkward scenes too skip through, and it actually had MORE robot-on-robot action than the last two. Half the action in the last two was human-on-robot action.

I agree that the first one does seem better now. The jokes feel more fitting, the Autobots feel like people, the Decepticons feel like threats, the story generally feels better. I did only notice, Megatron just fell, a few times after I first watched the film. It's a pity we couldn't get the toughness of the TF1 Cons with the character of the TF2/3 cons. Although, even in the sequels, the character development could be better for the Cons.

 

It would be good if the movie makers actually came onto sites like this so they could actually see what the fans want

 

The first is definately the best of the trilogy

 

Looking back on all three I think the first film was trying so hard to be one of those epic sci fi movies. They threw in that feeling of mystery, they had some slow time in the film to set up the wow factor of a transformation, and other than a few characters like Frenzy getting weak and incompetent at the end the Decepticons put up a good fight for the heroes. Sure some people complained Prime was too weak but the knock down drag out across the city between Prime and Megatron just seemed like a more epic fight where the good guy has to dig deep to win the fight he shouldn't win.

Revenge of the Fallen and Dark of the Moon felt more like just your standard action films that happened to have Autobots instead of Bruce Willis or Will Smith. The mythology that was thrown in felt thrown in instead of feeling like elements for a sci fi classic.

 

Yeah,I think the first one is the best. Every character got time to shine and decepticons felt like a threat,unlike in the sequels.

 

The first was very good, I enjoyed it and went back to see it a second time in the theatre.

The second one was the worst movie I have ever seen in my life. It raped my childhood and I needed a cold shower afterwards. I still wake up at night with nightmares from having paid to watch that horrible movie. My brother and I had to go home and pull out our old TF toys and hug them to our chests just to remind us that Transformers are actually awesome, and not the awful caricatures that we saw in that movie.

In terms of non-conclusory criticism of the second film, the characterizations were incredibly weak, and the story was disjointed. Each scene was aimed to provoke a testosterone rush rather than actually move the plot along. Even unimportant scenes like Sam's mom suddenly getting a rush and running around the school lawn, Sam's first class, everything was over-dramatic and non-sensical.

Also, the robots were not portrayed as actual living characters, they were more like glorified vehicles. At one point early in the movie the autobots drive back to their hangar in vehicle mode, and the hangar door is closed until the autobots are needed again. So they are treated like vehicles that you return to your parking lot. That absolutely drove me crazy. So the autobots are just going to stay in alt mode, like regular vehicles and wait until they are called upon?? These are ACTUAL LIVING BEINGS that like to hang out and have fun like the rest of us when they are not on the job. Take a look at "Roll for It" from season 1 of the Sunbow cartoon. After getting some repairs in that episode, we get to see the autobots hanging out in their base, some are arm wrestling, others are joking around, a few others are strategizing. That's what autobots do when they have down time. They hang out like the rest of us. They don't sit there in your garage like a regular car and wait for you to put the key in the ignition. Absolutely horrible.

Okay, end rant.

 

I agree the first is the best! On a side note: I always laugh when Ratchet says "yeah yeah yeah!" to Ironhide when he wants to shoot the parents!  

 

Well holy shit, look at that... people actually DO say that and mean it without being sarcastic. Wow.

 

When TF1 was released on the big screen the experience was irreplacable. Transformers spawned a new era of Transformers for the new generation and took the audience by surprise with CGI in a whole new style.

ROTF was that film that could have been, but in the end it deserves recognition for all the great special effects and the new robot designs that were made.

DOTM was with out a doubt the behemoth of an action/CGI film. My senses were completely taken away during every moment the movie was playing. One scene that made me feel like I was inside of the movie was the small screentime Cyberton had. Cybertron was truly remarkable in all levels of special effects.

So, did DOTM make my expectations go up? You best believe it did, and just wait for what's cooking next.

 

Totally agree with this. It's like they just sit there waiting for the humans' orders. That drove me crazy too. Really, NEST was a huge missed opportunity: a great concept that would have been developed under a different writing/directing team that knew to focus on the characters, both human and Transformer.

On topic - I loved the first movie from the first time I saw it. It introduced me to Transformers in general. And when I rewatch it, my feelings never change. It's definitely the best for me - I consider it the only good movie out of the three.

 

I absolutely love the first movie. Every time I listen to the score from it or listen to Linkin Park's "What I've Done," I always flashback to when I saw the movie in theaters twice. Still can never get enough of watching it.

Though, for me, both the first movie and DOTM are the best of the three movies.

 

Partially. I like the CGI more and the pacing is a billion times better than DOTM and especially better than ROTF.

Oh, and I actually liked Bumblebee in the first movie. In the other two he just turns into a typical "hey look at me, I kill decepticons and I'm a badass!" character that practically every Autobot is in this franchise.

tfbay 2 = the fart jokes/single line characterization/and bays shaky cam..
tfbay 3 = all these get worse (albeit the following 2 movies forget that the previous one(s) happened and try to tone down the fart jokes)

 

Whenever I hear that song, I always think of the last few scenes of the movie, starting with Ironhide dropping Lennox off at his home and ending with Prime's voice over. It reminds me of how much I loved the movie.

 

OMG, I think of the last scenes in the movie when I listen to that song, too!

 

Bingo! This is why the last two movies piss me off, and it pisses me off even more when the producers come on the site, saying it's too expensive to give us fans what we want, but yet, they had no problem giving what we wanted back in 2007, and with less of a budget! The only good thing about the last two movies would be the forest fight (actually, the best fight in the entire trilogy) and the introduction of Sideswipe, Dino/Mirage and Soundwave.

 

i recently watched the first movie, and i thought it was much better than i remember and definitely superior to the follow ups. Those are some of reasons:

Cons were powerful as they should be:
* Blackout wiped out an entire military base on his own.
* Starscream kicked several Autobot's asses at the same time, while Brawl managed to hold against practically an army (both Autobots and humans) by himself.
* Megatron kicked ass and was more than a match against Optimus as he should be.

While the cheap humor was already there, at least the characters we have are not completely jokes.
* Like Simmons was already weird but still managed to stay as a serious Agent for the most of the movie. Even Sam's parents were ok.
*every new character we meet in rotf and dotm, soldiers, robots (especially small ones), human sidekicks, pets, even all goverment officers were sitcom characters with extremely ridiculous personalities)
* Humour on bots was also better in the first movie like Ironhide's toothfairy and dog pee jokes or Ratchet's falling on electric cables or Frenzy's mimics.

Plot, performances.
*Battle for allspark was the most believable story among the trilogy, especially compared to "planet-transporting" and "sun-harvesting" themes.
* Beautiful lady characters, Mikaela and that Aussie girl, were acting and fitting to plot better than Alice in Rotf and Carly in Dotm. (although Alice's acting was quite ok considering she was an alien robot in disguise. What's Carly's excuse?)
